Red and yellow markings.
(S) From the refuge, head north, overlooking Estany del Mig and Estany Gros on your left.
TheGRP®® then turns north-west.
(1) At this flat spot, in this large grazing area, you will find a fork with a signpost.
Continue left, still heading north-west on theGRP®® Tour des Pérics.
Do not descend to the right towards Esposolla via theGRP®® Tour du Capcir.
Caution: This is a confusing area as there are no signs and this is where two GRP®® trails separate.
The path turns west, climbing up through this grazing area.
At the Rec de Peira Escrita (torrent of the written stone) ford, the path climbs more steeply, heading due north towards the summit.
Do not try to cut across, as this is a fragile area. Simply follow the well-marked red and yellow trail.
(2) Reach Pic de Mortiers, on the left, by going a few metres higher and then back down.
Continue north on theGRP®®. Overlook the beautiful Estany del Diable on your right as you turn north-east. The location is magnificent. Soon you will leave the Pyrénées Orientales and enter Ariège.
(3) Arrive at Puig de Terrers, where relay antennas stand tall. This is a place where it can freeze even in summer.
Turn left, heading due north, descending steeply towards a pass. This is the end of the Pyrénées Orientales.
(4) Coll de Terrers. Head due west, descending steeply. Take care at the start of the pass: the path may be rutted. Then a good path heads south-west, continuing to descend steeply on the Ariège side.
(5) Jasse des Espagnols (Spanish sheep park). Respect the tranquillity of this inhabited area during the season. A well-deserved break is possible in this beautiful, peaceful place. Beautiful view of the Oriège valley coming from Orlu. Pass the ruins of the Jasse de Deçà.
(6) Jasse de delà. Continue on theGRP®® trail, which heads northwest and then southwest. Arrive at Coste de Boulaxes or Passage de Mortès, which is actually a tricky passage, but not dangerous, although you still need to be careful. The path is steep and rocky.
Red and white markings ( there may still be some red and yellow markings)
(7) Junction with theGR®®7, which you should follow to the left, now going uphill. Ford the Oriège.
The red and white markings are supposed to replace the red and yellow markings of the GRP®®.
(8) You will come out at the Étang d'en Beys spillway, which you should go around on the right.
(E) Refuge d'en Beys. End of the second stage in a beautiful location.
Option: after putting down your rucksacks and quenching your thirst, don't hesitate to head north behind the refuge along a good path towards the beautiful lakes above the refuge. Find the Gourd Gaudet and then the very pretty Estagnol de Gaudet further east. Track on OSM.
