Plan de la Lai refuge - Chalet de l'Écondu

(S) Leave the refuge by taking the^GRP®® opposite, a variant of the Tour du Beaufortain, which is also the^GR®®5.
Head south-west, passing the lodge de Plan Mya and then Le Mora. Turn south and climb the winding path. You will arrive above Lac de Roselend at the Petite Berge chalets.

(1) Walk along the lake at a distance, keeping it in sight until you reach the hamlet of Lavachay above Treicol.

(2) Begin a rapid climb to reach the ruins of the Presset chalets, a crossroads of trails.

(3) Turn right onto the^GRP®® du Beaufortain, leaving the^GR®®5climbing to Col de Bresson on your left. Cross the Conchette mountain pasture and arrive at Chalet du Coin.

(4) Then begin the long climb south-west to the Col du Coin.

(5) Descend to Plan Brunet and then Refuge de la Coire.

(6) Quickly climb back up to Cormet d'Arèches via a very wide agricultural track serving these mountain pastures. Reach a crossroads in a right-hand bend.

(7) Head north along the path to reach Lac des Fées.

(8) Take the track that branches off to the left to Chalet de l'Econdu, today's stop (E).

Be careful around water sources in streams, as there are many herds.

This is where Beaufort d'alpage cheese is produced. You will encounter numerous herds and, above all, mobile milking facilities where the cows gather.
