Description of the walk

Park in the spaces available behind the church or nearby.

(S/E) Set off with the church on your right and pass a circular fountain. At the junction, turn right onto the D36, ignore Rue du Lac on your right, then all the side streets until you leave the village and arrive within sight of the lake. Continue along the small road (or follow the path closest to the lake: see Practical Information).

(1) At the fork in the road, keep left on the D36 for about 100 metres, then follow a path that branches off to the left. At the T-junction, turn left. The path leads to a hamlet. Turn onto the path that branches off to the left, without following the street. At the T-junction, continue uphill to the left. Further on, the path turns sharply to the right and then reaches the summit of Puy de Menoyre, overlooking an old quarry. There is an orientation table, but it was not very useful when we visited as the trees blocked the view.

(2) Pass the orientation table and continue straight ahead. The path descends again, following a wide curve to the right. At the T-junction, follow the path to the left and join a road.

(3) Walk a few metres to the right and, at the fork in the road, keep left. About 150 m further on, at the bend in the road to the left, continue straight ahead on the path. You will reach a path.

(4) Follow it straight ahead. Go around the farm on the left and join its access road, which you should follow to the left. Join a road, walk a few metres to the left and then, at the fork in the road, keep left. Further on, leave the access road to Lascombes on your right and continue for another hundred metres or so along the road until you reach an intersection with a path on the left and a grassy trail on the right.

(5) Turn right. Further on, join the road and follow it straight ahead. Pass a house with a pretty cross, then two bridges, and enter Brocq.

(6) At the entrance to the hamlet, leave the road and take the path on the left, which is gravel at the beginning. Continue along this path, following the yellow markings. At a fork in the path, keep to the right and join a road.

(7) Follow it straight ahead, crossing the hamlet of Crayssac. At the last houses, leave the road and take an access road on the left leading to some houses, then continue along the path that extends from it. Cross a stream, the Claussou, and reach the end of a road.

(8) Follow it to a crossroads.

(9) Continue straight ahead, ignoring the access road to La Pruneyre on the left 50 metres further on.

(10) At the road junction, take the road on the right. At the next junction, keep right again. You will arrive at Place du Foirail in Menet. Pass the war memorial on your right as you head towards the town centre. At the junction, turn right and you will find the church and the car park (S/E).

Notes

Hike of moderate difficulty, rather easy, standard hiking equipment required.

The Visorando app is recommended as there are no dedicated markings for this route.

On leaving the village, if the lake level allows, take the path on the right and turn left as soon as possible to follow the lake on your right. The path rejoins the road shortly before (1).

Please note! There are many sections of road on this route, although they are not very busy.

Short alternative: at (3), follow the road to the left and you will immediately arrive at (10).

Unfortunately, there is no particular viewpoint at the summit of Puy de Menoyre, but it is an interesting site for geologists due to the presence of sapphires (information here) and garnets (information here).

However, there are clear views on several sections of the route.

A pleasant and varied hike.
Between points 4 and 5, we followed the PR markings, with a shortcut at the end that took us across the stream on a narrow wall...
