Lockdown walk in La Bretonnière

A short walk to explore the narrow lanes of the La Bretonnière neighbourhood in Voisins-le-Bretonneux and its surroundings. It is perfectly suited to the lockdown period: the route takes an hour and stays within a 1 km radius of the Quarante Arpents school complex, located in the heart of the neighbourhood. More than three-quarters of the route is along pedestrian paths surrounded by greenery.

Description of the walk

(S/E) Cross Rue Auguste Renoir at the pedestrian crossing located directly opposite the entrance to the training centre, which occupies part of the school complex at No. 39. Take the small lane directly opposite.

At the end of the lane, turn right into Rue Paul Signac, which leads onto Rue Auguste Renoir; follow this road by turning right. After about 50 metres, continue straight on into Rue Raoul Dufy, leaving Rue Auguste Renoir, which turns right.

At the end of Rue Raoul Dufy, take the small lane that leads onto Rue Henri Matisse. Turn right into the street and, at the end of the first bend, take the small lane on the right that crosses a small green space.
At the end of the lane, at a roundabout, turn left and follow Rue Henri Matisse for about 20 metres, before crossing it to turn right into Rue Maurice Utrillo. Halfway down the street (a dead end), take a small lane on the right which leads to the end of Rue Vincent Van Gogh.

Follow this street and, atthe second right-hand bend, take the small lane on the left, between numbers 12 and 14. Follow this lane. After a right-hand bend, it winds its way between the houses and crosses Rue Hector Berlioz twice.
When you reach Rue Georges Bizet, turn left (do not follow the lane opposite), to come out onto the pedestrian lane combined with a cycle path, between Rue Georges Bizet and the D36 (Route de Châteaufort), under the trees, and take it to the right.

(1) The path passes the entrance to the La Bretonnière district (shops) and continues straight on after the traffic lights, between the D36 and Rue Claude Debussy.

Leave the lane and follow Rue Claude Debussy as it turns right. After about thirty metres, take the small lane on the right just after the block of houses. It leads onto Rue Léo Delibes, which you follow to the left along its pedestrianised section.

Turn right into Rue Charles Gounod. Before the roundabout, turn left across the small square to reach Rue Henri Matisse. Follow this street, leaving Rue Paul Cézanne on your left, and take the small lane 20 metres further on to the left.

At the end of the lane, cross Rue Paul Cézanne and take another small lane almost directly opposite (slightly to the left) which leads onto the green corridor. Head straight ahead to enter the Val-Saint-Quentin business park (business campus). Continue straight on until you reach a small pond in the centre of the campus.

(2) Turn left between the staff canteen and the pond. Cross the road and continue along the path opposite until you reach the exit from the business park via a small gate.

Turn left to follow the Route de Versailles (D91) along a footpath combined with a cycle path. At the junction (traffic lights), turn right to cross Route de Versailles and take the path opposite (slightly to the right), between the trees, which leads to another footpath and cycle lane; take this by turning right. Follow this path, which leads to the entrance of the Grande-Ile district (shops) along Rue Jacques Cartier.

(3) Cross Avenue de la Grande-Ile and continue straight ahead along the path for about 150 m. Cross the road at the pedestrian crossing to take the path that descends to the right, passing under Route de Versailles. Follow this path, which runs alongside the green corridor. Cross Rue René Caudron to continue along the path that continues straight ahead (playground). Upon reaching the green corridor, take the small path opposite, which leads onto Rue Auguste Renoir.

(4) Turn right onto it. Follow Rue Auguste Renoir to the roundabout at the junction with Rue Henri Matisse. Just before the roundabout, take the pedestrian crossing that goes round the roundabout on the left, cross Rue Henri Matisse and continue round the roundabout until you reach a small lane that branches off to the left, winding its way between the houses.

At the end of the lane, take Rue Paul Gauguin opposite, crossing Rue Albert Marquet. Follow Rue Paul Gauguin, which bends left several times, until you reach a small lane on your right that runs alongside a green space with a playground. The lane takes you back to Rue Henri Matisse; simply cross the road to reach the Quarante Arpents school complex and return to the starting point (S/E).

A very interesting route, but at the end you find yourself on the road right in the middle of a bend (quite dangerous)

Thank you for all the walks. This one wasn’t for me, but the person who organised it was happy. Especially in these difficult times when we can’t stray too far.
Kind regards

A short, ideal route to do during lockdown, winding through a residential estate;
Little of historical interest, but an interesting route through the Grande Ile Business Park.
