Description of the walk

Parking is available near the roundabout at the entrance to Saint-Remèze, towards the petrol station or the cemetery.

(S/E) Head up the D4 towards Bourg-Saint-Andéol as far as the Sainte-Anne Chapel. Cross the road at the pedestrian crossing to take the road to the left of the chapel and continue until you reach a three-way junction.

(1) Keep left, staying on the same road, and continue until you reach the stone cross (Croix des Pastroux) at the corner of the track leading to the hamlet of the same name.

(2) Walk for about fifty metres, then turn left onto a small, winding road.

(3) Cross two small bridges and pass a few houses.

(4) Just after a house on the right, leave the road and take a dirt track that climbs to the left.
Continue along this track through the lavender fields with a lovely view of the Dent de Rez: magnificent scenery with dry stone walls and heath vegetation.

(5) Ignore a path branching off to the right and carry on until you reach the tarmac road (the highest point of the walk).

(6) Turn left to head back down towards the hamlet of Briange and follow the main path which leads back to Saint-Remèze via the Croix du Planas.

(7) Continue to the left, pass the wine cooperative and head for the roundabout to return to the car park (S/E).

The route is rather monotonous between the start and point 2. You can set off after point 1, about 1km300 past the chapel, where there is a car park by the roadside that divides the long straight stretch in two.
If 8km25 seems too long, shorten the walk to 6km15. About 500m after the hamlet of Briange, you’ll reach a farm on level ground. Turn left, before the buildings opposite the fire hydrant, onto a wide path which, after 1km, takes you back to your cars. This way, you’ll avoid 3km of tarmac, and the most beautiful scenery is before Briange.
A lovely walk. Thanks to the author
