From Riom, head towards Volvic and Pontgibaud. At Saint-Ours-les-Roches, take the D62 towards Chapdes-Beaufort, Les Ancizes and Pont du Bouchet.
(S/E) At the Pont du Bouchet roundabout car park, turn left near the cross towards the beach.
(1) At the fork, go up to the right until you reach the road. Cross it, go up the small tarmac road opposite and follow it for 1.5 km until you reach a viewpoint overlooking the dam reservoir. Continue to the crossroads at an altitude of 653 metres.
(2) Take the leftmost path. Walk along a fir tree plantation until you reach the intersection with a path going up to the right and take it. Ignore a path on the right and continue straight ahead until you reach a T-junction.
(3) Turn left and cross the hamlet of Les Chassaings. Descend towards the village of Le Bouchet. Cross the departmental road with caution and continue straight ahead.
(4) Turn left onto a grassy path, cross a stream and climb back up to the road.
(5) Turn right and continue for 500 metres. At a right-hand bend, climb up the path opposite to the Belvédère d'Andrivet viewpoint.
(6) Turn left towards Confolant on a path above the reservoir until you reach the holiday village. Turn left until you reach the central crossroads in Confolant.
(7) Continue straight ahead towards the campsite. At the end of the tarmac road, climb the path on the left to the top of the hill (viewpoint over Confolant and La Chazotte).
(8) Continue along the edge of the Fades reservoir to return to the starting point (S/E).
