Park in the car park at the old Rouge Gazon resort. Plenty of spaces but the car park is very uneven (stones, potholes, etc.).
(S/E) Return to the car park entrance at the D90 junction, then turn right onto the Blue Disc-marked path towards the forest, which starts in a field. Follow a steep, winding climb and, at the crossroads at the top of the climb, turn right following the sign for “Tête du Rouge Gazon”, marked with a Red Disc. At the end of the dead-end path , you will find a viewpoint from which you can admire the landscape, but only on a clear day.
(1) Retrace your steps back to the car park.
(S/E) Take the path on the left marked with a Blue Rectangle crossed by a White Rectangle, following the sign for “Storckenson via Gazon Vert”. Head down through the forest to the Gazon Vert refuge, which has picnic tables both outside and inside. Please note, the path can be a bit slippery in bad weather. Beautiful view from the refuge.
(2) After the refuge, continue along the path marked with a Blue Rectangle crossed by a White Rectangle; there is a lovely viewpoint after the wooden barriers, near the metal bridge. Continue down to a crossroads.
(3) Head down to the left along the winding path to see the waterfall. You should only take this detour if the water flow is substantial, otherwise you may be disappointed.
(4) Return via the same route.
(3) Continue to the left, following the Red Rectangle with a White Rectangle, to reach the Auberge du Gazon Vert, where food is available.
(5) Walk past the inn (on your right), ignore the forest track and take the path that climbs, following the same markings. Climb the steep, winding path whilst enjoying the superb views, and reach the Col des Perches.
(6) Take the path marked with a Red Rectangle (GR®5), following the sign for “Ballon d’Alsace, Neuweiher via Obere Bers GR®5”. The path offers several views of Lac des Perches and passes by picnic tables. Continue until you reach the Haute Bers clearing and walk along the edge of the forest to find the junction marked with signposts.
(7) Turn sharply right onto the path marked with a Blue Rectangle crossed by a white bar, signposted “Rouge Gazon”. Continue up the path to the wooden fence overlooking a field. After the fence, take the path on the right and reach a three-way junction in the road at the edge of the forest.
(8) Keep to the right, then turn right again a few dozen metres further on onto a small stony path leading to a spectacular viewpoint over Lac des Perches; take care of the drop-off.
(9) Turn back for about 50 metres, then head right to reach the Tête des Perches.
(10) Continue left to complete a circular loop that takes you back to the three-way junction at the edge of the forest.
(8) Turn right and head straight down to the ski lift, then make your way back to the car park (S/E).
