Park in the small car park just before the entrance to the village of Artigue.
The entire route is signpostedGR® (red and white markings)
(S/E) Walk through the village of Artigue, then take the wide track on the right which climbs gently above the village.
After passing through a short stretch of woodland, an uphill section leads to a crossroads of tracks beneath the trees.
(1) Continue to the right, uphill, along the forest track. You will then emerge from the forest to find yourself on the mountainside. The path winds twice in hairpin bends before reaching the Cabane de Saunères. Magnificent panoramic views over the Luchonnais and the Maladeta.
(2) Continue along theGR®10, which climbs quite steeply behind the hut, heading north-east. Go round a rocky outcrop (the Serrat de Créspés) to the left (its northern slope) before climbing a fairly steep slope to reach a fairly flat ridge. Take care to stay on the trail: there is a significant drop to the right of the path.
(3) Continue along the ridge. The path bypasses a small hillock on the left, then leads to the Col de Peyrehitte, at the foot of the Plan de Montmajou. You can see the Cabane de Peyrehitte below, to the right.
(4) From this small pass, you can leave theGR®10and head straight up to the Plan de Montmajou (a fairly steep climb).
Return directly to the starting point by following the same route back as on the way there (S/E).
