Head to the Col de Port on the D618 (coming from Massat or Tarascon) and park opposite the "La Sapinière" inn.
(S/E) From the signs, take the path that climbs south before turning southeast.
(1) The path then turns south-west. Continue along the ridge (do not get too close to the east side where there may be snow cornices) to the summit of Pic d'Estibat (1663 metres).
(2) From the peak (the highest point of the hike), follow the ridge down to the left (southeast) staying close to the fence to avoid the snow cornices along the ridge on your left. You will quickly reach a pass (1569 m) before climbing back up to the Sommet des Griets.
(3) A few metres below the Sommet des Griets, continue south towards the Pic de la Journalade and join the ridge line until you reach a small plateau from where you can see the beautiful wild valley descending from the Pic de la Journalade and Cap de Dosse.
(4) From this plateau, turn back and turn right to reach the Sommet de Griets.
(5) From the summit, continue right towards the east, along the ridge, and descend straight down, leaving the forest on your left before entering it. Continue straight east until you reach a forest track.
(6) Follow this on your left until you reach a hairpin bend. Leave the track and continue straight ahead to reach a forest house in the middle of a clearing.
(7) Pass to the left of the house and continue along the path. After about a hundred metres, ignore a path that descends to the left and continue a little further until you quickly reach a fork where a forest track climbs steeply to the left.
(8) Do not take this track, but continue straight ahead on the path, which is now narrower and climbs slightly. After a few minutes, as you leave the forest, you will see the Cabane d'Estibat, which is your destination.
(9) From the hut, continue a little way west, cross a small stream and climb a path heading due north to a ridge. Then turn west, staying level on the sloping path.
The Col de Port is now clearly visible. Continue along the path until you reach the trail you started on, just above the pass (S/E), which you will reach quickly.
