Bout de Touron from Cabus, Ramon locality

Snowshoe hike starting from Ramon, depending on snow conditions. Be careful of road conditions; make sure you have good winter tyres (keep chains in the boot of your vehicle as a precaution). It is sometimes possible to drive to the small car park just next to the cattle grid. Fairly gentle slopes, mainly on tracks and trails, except before the summit of Bout du Touron. South-facing with a beautiful view, short section through the forest to see the Cabane des Gardes on the trail.

Description of the walk

From Saurat, coming from Tarascon, turn right towards Cabus, pass the hamlet and continue towards Le Relais. The road becomes a track more or less at Ramon. Please note: do not take the road before or at the entrance to Saurat as this road is even smaller and more winding!
Park near the place called Ramon, depending on what space you can find; if you can get to the small car park at the cattle grid by following the signs for Le Relais, that's even better!

(S/E) With your snowshoes on, walk along the track towards Le Relais.

(1) Leave the track on the right and continue straight ahead.

(2) Take the track on the left until you reach the next crossroads about 200 metres away.

(3) Take the track on the right and continue to the Roc de Traucadou antenna.

(4) Retrace your steps.

(3) Continue straight ahead, still on the track.

(5) Continue straight ahead to see the next peak.

(6) Continue straight ahead. Shortly before reaching Bout du Touron, take a track on the right, leaving the trail, as there is a large snow cornice ahead: danger.

(7) Continue towards the summit on the left, where the climb becomes more intense.

(8) Arrival at the summit of Bout du Touron (cement marker). 360° viewpoint. Turn around . Before rejoining the track, it is possible to go to Roc de la Caugue (altitude 1,425 m) and then rejoin the track.

(6) Descend on the left-hand track in the opposite direction to the outward journey.

(5) Take the track on the left.

(9) Cabane des Gardes. Retrace your steps.

(5) Take the path on the left in the opposite direction to the outward journey.

(3) Leave the path leading up to the relay antenna on your left and descend to the right, in the opposite direction to the outward journey, taking the long main track on the right to return to the car park (S/E).

Notes

(9) Cabane des Gardes: open, sleeps 4 - please note that in winter the spring does not flow and the water from the roof must be filtered, otherwise you will need to descend to the stream quite far to the north!

South-facing slope with no shade.

Depending on the snow conditions and depth, it will take you more or less time!

Good depth of at least 40 cm in places (December 2025)!

Worth a visit

(4) Roc de Traucadou: beautiful viewpoint, go a little past it, going around the buildings.

(8) Bout de Touron 360° view.

Roc du Cap de la Caugue near the route.

(9) Pretty Gardes hut: sleeps 4 but often occupied (weekends, school holidays, etc.).
