The starting point is at the entrance to the port of Audenge, where it is easy to park and find somewhere to eat.
(S/E) Start by walking along the swimming pool and then the beginning of the port.
(1) At this point, leave the tarmac road leading to the port and take a sandy but easy path. The trail runs along a dyke separating the basin from the old fish tanks.
After turning slightly and leaving a blocked path on your right, you will come to an old fork in the road.
(2) Contrary to what the IGN map suggests, it is no longer possible to turn left onto the dyke here. Continue straight ahead on this path, which now runs between the reservoirs on either side. After 500 to 600 metres, you will reach a canal (draining coastal streams) and turn sharply to the right, following the canal for about a kilometre.
(3) At the next intersections, keep left, crossing a small bridge over a small canal. You are now heading firmly north-west through a meadow.
(4) After another bridge, you will come to a fairly wide path: this time, turn right (due north). Shortly afterwards, you will come to a barrier preventing you from continuing straight ahead. Fortunately, another bridge (on the right) allows you to cross the canal and head towards the buildings of the Château de Certes.
(5) You will pass in front of the recently renovated castle (Gironde Departmental Council and Conservatoire du Littoral). You will come to a dirt road leading to the castle's outbuildings (and former stables); turn right and go around the buildings.
(6) The reception area for the Certes estate is located here. Continue around and pass by the castle again (this time behind it).
(5) After passing the annex building where the picnic area is located, take a path heading south, then cross a large meadow and rejoin the path you have already taken.
(3) This time, turn left and take a good path (heading south) that runs alongside meadows. After a few right-angle turns, this path will take you back to the car park at Audenge harbour (S/E).
