(S/E) Opposite Hôtel de Ville, turn left (towards BHV). Cross Rue de Rivoli and walk along the right-hand side. At the end of the store, turn left onto Rue des Archives. Walk past the Lutheran church (Cloître des Billettes). At the second traffic lights, turn right onto Rue des Francs Bourgeois.
(1) Immediately turn left into the courtyard to visit the gardens of the Hôtel de Soubise. It houses the National Archives. Exit through the same door.
(1) When you leave the courtyard, turn left onto Rue des Francs Bourgeois and walk past the Notre-Dame des Blancs Manteaux church on your right (the church is open in the afternoon). Immediately after, you will pass a small square (water fountain). Then turn right onto Rue Vieille du Temple and continue until you reach the intersection with Rue des Rosiers on your left.
(2) Continue straight ahead on Rue Vieille du Temple and turn left onto Impasse du Trésor. This is a small paradise of greenery and tranquillity. Then retrace your steps back to Rue des Rosiers.
(2) Turn right onto Rue des Rosiers. Follow this iconic street in Paris's former Jewish quarter almost to the end. Just before the end of the street, turn left onto Rue Pavée and continue onto Rue Mayenne. At the crossroads, turn left again onto Rue des Francs Bourgeois.
Then take the first street on the right, Rue Elzévin. Pass the Carnavalet Museum. Turn right onto Rue du Parc Royal and enter the square on the right. At the end of the square, turn right onto Rue de Sévigné. This will take you back to Rue des Francs Bourgeois, which you will follow to the left. You will come out onto the famous Place des Vosges.
(3) Enter the square on the right and go to the centre of the square, under the equestrian statue of Louis XIII. It shows you the direction to take to leave the square, heading south onto Rue de Birague. You will come out onto the large Rue Saint-Antoine, where you turn right. At the traffic lights, turn right under the porch of the Hôtel de Sully and continue to the second courtyard.
Retrace your steps and follow Rue Saint-Antoine again, on the right. At the traffic lights, cross the street and go to the entrance of the Church of Saint-Paul and Saint-Louis (open to visitors).
(4) Continue along Rue Saint-Antoine and, at the fork, take the left branch, Rue François Miron. Continue straight ahead. At the end of this street, you will reach the entrance to the Church of Saint-Gervais (open to visitors) on your left.
(5) With your back to the church, you will see the rear of the Hôtel de Ville in front of you. Go around it on the left, along the Quai de l'Hôtel de Ville, and enjoy the view of the Seine, the spires of Notre-Dame and the towers of the Conciergerie. You will find yourself on the right-hand side of the Hôtel de Ville esplanade (S/E).
