Petit Col Ferret walks

stage 6 of the Tour du Mont Blanc from the Elena refuge in Italy to Champex in Switzerland.

Starting from Arpnouva, the hike begins with a magnificent ascent up the glacial valley to the Refuge Elena. The path climbs steeply to the Col Ferre, which is the highest point of the day. The descent is straightforward on the Swiss side to the Refuge de la Peule, a lovely little stop-off amidst the cows. The descent follows a track suitable for vehicles, with the option to cut across some of the hairpin bends through cow pastures. There is also a ford to cross. A mountain hut a little further up offers a chance for a short break. The rest of the route, which is straightforward, offers beautiful views of the glaciers. The walk ends on the road and finishes at La Fouly.

stage 5 of the TMB: From Planpincieux to the Relais d'Arpette via the Col du Grand Ferret.

This 7th stage of the Tour Mont Blanc (TMB) begins in La Fouly and gently descends alongside the Dranse de Ferret to Praz-de-Fort and Les Arlaches. It then leaves the valley to climb up to Lac de Champex. Let's do it! This walk is a mixture of the Chemin de Bouquetins which coincides with the Sentier des Bergers in places. It takes advantage of the ski-lift in Fouly to save on the ascent but you can always walk uphill if you choose. These walks are both publicized by the tourist office and are well signposted.

This 6th stage of the TMB continues to follow the stream Dora di Ferret from high up before dropping into the valley, for a while. From below the Pré de Bard Damon and all the way up to the Grand Col Ferret the ascent is almost 500m. Here the route enters Switzerland and it's pretty much downhill, around La Dotse to follow the stream Dranse de Ferret into La Fouly. This seven-stage trek around Les Combins differs in a few ways from the classic tour. It allows you to hike in complete tranquillity in a sumptuous and diverse setting between the mid- and high-mountain ranges, where you will climb to over 3,000 metres. You will encounter dozens of marmots, ibex and herds of Herens cows. A few remnants of glaciers add to the alpine atmosphere of this trek, whose highest point is the Col du Mont Gelé at 3,144 metres. An easy warm-up walk in preparation for a 3/4 tour of Les Combins. From the car park located after Saint-Rhémy, in a hairpin bend at an altitude of 1,730 m, coming from Saint-Rhémy-en Bosses, on Route 27 of the Col du Grand Saint-Bernard. The route follows the Via Alpina Red R117.

Today's stage uses the "TDC" trail, which is also a section of the Alta Via N°1 of the Aosta Valley and the Sentiero Italia Tappa 11. Hike with a brief description, to be followed with the Visorando app.

It’s the last day. The descent from the Col de Malatra is magnificent. It’s the last pass at almost 3,000 metres. You can see the path from afar, winding up the mountainside. After that, the solitude will be over. We rejoin the TMB from the Bonatti Refuge and its throng of hikers. The descent towards Courmayeur is superb, but once you reach the tarmac, it’s a very long way.
