Via Anserville from Fosseuse

An easy walk with surprising landscapes. Despite its proximity to Bornel, you will find yourself in beautiful woodlands, fields and hills. Here you will find peace and quiet and birdsong. There is a small section of tarmac that is difficult to avoid, but most of the route is on quiet, green paths.

Description of the walk

Park in the car park of the Bornel Primary School, 107 Rue du Vert Galant in Fosseuse

(S/E). Leaving the car park, walk up Rue du Vert Galant on the right-hand side until you reach Saint-Claude Church and the cemetery. Turn right onto the D609, walk along the cemetery and you will arrive at the junction with Rue du Blanc Fossé, which will be your return route.

(1) Continue straight ahead on the D609 for about 150 metres until you reach a path on the right.

(2) Take this path, which climbs between the fields until you come to another path.

(3) Turn left at the hairpin bend and head towards a small wood for 400 metres.

(4) Take the path that branches off to the right, making another hairpin turn. A little further on, the path makes a right angle and turns left, heading north-east to the Bois de Bornel

(5) Go around the woods on the left on a path that leads to a small road.

(6) Follow it to the left until you reach the entrance to Anserville.

(7) At the entrance sign, turn right onto the wide path at the edge of the woods, ignore all the small paths that lead into the woods and you will come to a T-junction.

(8) Turn left and enter Anserville. The path becomes a street that leads to a small grassy square. Go around it on the right (you can take a look at the castle opposite). Join the D609 again.

(9) Turn left onto this road and cross Anserville. On leaving the village, walk alongside the cemetery and, 200 metres further on, take the wide path on the right towards the south-west, then south towards Fosseuse.

(10) Just before the housing estate, turn left onto the path, which crosses the entire estate for a good while. Continue right along Rue du Blanc Fossé, which joins Route d'Anserville, which you took earlier.

(1) Turn right and, following the same route as on the way there, return to the school car park (S/E).

Notes

The paths are often damaged by agricultural machinery, so sturdy footwear is recommended. In winter, you will encounter muddy areas that will need to be bypassed.

Worth a visit

The small castle in Anserville, and especially the small brick church, are worth exploring.

The church in Fosseuse was the castle chapel. It dates back to the 16th century.

Fosseuse Castle is located almost opposite the school car park.
