Parking is available at the SPA on the road between Villeneuve-lès-Maguelone and Fabrègues (departmental road 185, after the prison).
(S/E) From the car park, follow the departmental road on your left before joining an unmarked path leading to the summit of Mont-Bauzille. You will pass a war memorial and its flag before beginning a climb of less than a kilometre.
(1) Ignore a path on the right and continue climbing. Halfway up, you will come to the first viewpoint. From here, you can see the Carrière de la Madeleine quarry on your right and, in the distance, Villeneuve-lès-Maguelone, the L'Estagnol nature reserve, the ponds and the sea.
You are approaching the summit and La Chapelle Saint-Bauzille, but just before you reach it, there is a landing where you can admire the view once again and look out over the commune of Saint-Jean de Vedas (in particular).
(2) You will reach the summit at 185 metres. There you will find the chapel dedicated to Saint-Bauzille (see note).
Enjoy the panoramic view of the surrounding towns, Pic Saint Loup, the ponds and the sea. Begin your descent by taking the Way of the Cross.
(3) Continue along the Way of the Cross. At this point, you can cut slightly across the typical heath vegetation.
(4) At the end of the Way of the Cross, you will arrive at a plateau. Turn right. Continue along the pine forest, then back into the heath, ignoring all the paths on the left until you reach your starting point.
(1) Turn left and return to the start of this scenic walk (S/E).
Very disappointing hike... poorly maintained trail... poorly marked... beautiful view of the quarry below during the entire climb... noise and dust... all that just to not be able to reach the summit because of too many thistles... not to mention the barking of the dogs from the animal shelter that accompany us at the start...
