Description of the walk

Starting point: Olloy-sur-Viroin; junction of Route du Viroin and Rue des Mines

(S) Take Rue des Mines and cross the bridge over the Viroin. After the second street on the left, take the passage between houses nos. 5 and 7. First turn right then left and follow “Cheraivoie” and the GRP® 124 to the river.

(1) Do not cross the river. Continue straight on until you reach a three-way junction.

(2) Take the middle path opposite and leave the GRP® 124. At the junction with the hiking trail marked with a yellow ‘+’, follow this to the left up onto the plateau, ignoring all side paths.

(3) Leave the marked hiking path and follow the path straight ahead, making a first turn right then left. Ignore the three side paths until you reach a wider track.

(4) Take the track on the right. Continue straight ahead until you reach the edge of the forest (Rue de Vierves).

(5) Join the GR® 124 and follow it to the left to leave the forest. A path crosses the meadow to reach Oignies-en-Thiérache.

(6) You’ll reach a bend in Rue Notre-Dame. Carry on to the right and take the first street on the left. At the ‘Y’ junction, take the left-hand branch (Rue du Lavoir), then turn right onto Rue Notre-Dame and right again onto Rue de le Mesnil. Head down the pedestrianised street on the left to reach Rue Flache, then make the first turn left then right.

(7) Follow the path. Take the N 990 on the left and carry on until you reach a ‘Y’ junction.

(8) Continue along the N990 via the left-hand branch (Route de Fumay). Follow this until you reach the hiking trail marked with a green ‘+’.

(9) Follow it to the left, ignoring two side paths. At the third junction, carry on straight ahead, ignoring the green ‘+’ markings. At the first path branching off to the right, carry on straight ahead. At the second (with new green ‘+’ markings), take the path to the left then immediately to the right. Then leave the aforementioned markings. Follow the path until you rejoin the markings, heading straight ahead.

(10) Then leave the markings at the next ‘Y’ junction, near a private property. Take the path on the right to rejoin the markings.

(11) Turn right. Continue straight ahead until you reach the N990 (in Belgium) and the D7 (in France).

(12) Enter France and follow the D7 to the left until you reach a small path on the right leading up to the Notre-Dame de Divers Monts Chapel. At the foot of the chapel, continue along the path straight ahead until you reach Rue Bauduin Petit.

(13) Cross the D7 by turning right then left to enter Place d’Auchel. Stop at Rue du Château (E).
