Description of the walk

Start from the Grande Usine des Moulinages car park, located on the right towards the village exit, in the direction of Saoû.

(S/E) Head towards the corner of the car park, in the direction of Roubion, take the path on the right, then continue along the water pipe. At the end, use the few rungs fixed into the rock to descend to the level of the stream. Walk along the rocks on your right, pass the bend and take the path that climbs to the right until you quickly reach a fork directly above the threshold.

(1) Ignore the trail that climbs to the right and continue almost horizontally on the one that is slightly less marked. At the edge of the woods, turn right, walk along the field on your left until you reach the halfway point and find a discreet start on the right.

(2) Take the path, which becomes more visible a few metres further on. At the next fork, which is not very marked, continue straight ahead. The trail winds to the right, then continues straight up the slope. Cross a grassy section, then, at the cairn on your left, head straight ahead through the undergrowth until you almost reach the cliff. Quickly go around it on the left and you will easily reach the top. Continue to the right, along the edge of the cliff, and follow a discreet trail that gradually moves away from the edge to reach a fork at the edge of the woods.

(3) Continue left until you reach the next fork.

(4) Walk a few metres to the left, almost flat, turn right and climb up to a fork with the path on the right going horizontally.

Ignore this path and turn left onto the less marked trail, which climbs and then quickly descends to reach the viewpoint (elevation 594) about 50 metres further on.

(5) After enjoying the view, retrace your steps to the second fork on the almost horizontal path.

(4) Leave the route you took on the way up and continue straight ahead. At the edge of the woods, enjoy the view from Mièlandre to the Eysahut rocks via Saint-Maurice. A few metres further on, cross the valley and climb slightly to the next fork.

(6) Walk about ten metres to the right and turn onto the path on the right, which descends to the next fork.

(7) Turn left and you will soon reach a viewpoint. Continue along the clearly visible path downhill until you reach the Grande Usine des Moulinages car park (S/E).

Notes

If the car park is full, there are other parking options heading south, particularly at the village exit.

The summit is exposed to the Mistral wind, but the route is sheltered from the wind. Avoid in hot weather.

You may want to bring pruning shears, as some parts of the trail tend to close in.

Trousers are recommended, as the presence of false holly makes some areas a little prickly.

Worth a visit

Thank you, saacha007, for your comment, and I am very sorry that you did not find the viewpoint at WP5.
I have just added some additional details at the fork near it.

Thank you for this circular route, which I didn't know about yet. It was a pleasure to discover a nice, quiet hike.
A bit of cardio to soak up the boxwood, the height above Pont-de-Barret and the valley, and the pleasures of the area next to the river (great spots to enjoy at the start and on the way back). Lots of violets at the beginning of March!
I really liked the area just before your point 6 (a wilder spot with a view of Miélandre). If I were from Pont-de-Barret, this walk would definitely be one of my regulars. Coming from the east, I'm less enthusiastic.

One downside: I can't say whether your itinerary lacks details (and how many), but there are several junctions of small paths and I was glad to confirm or correct the route described by my GPS. Perhaps I'm becoming more dependent and less intuitive now that I no longer use IGN maps...
I didn't understand the point of going to point 5, or couldn't find it (I tried three options).

I met two groups of people on a Sunday in March.
During the tourist season, you can expect more people and the noise of motorbikes, which you'll hear clearly for two-thirds of the way.

Have a great season!
