The starting point for this stage is on Hellbuhlstrasse, near the Hotel Kreuz in Malters.

(S) From the Hotel Kreuz, follow Hellbuhlstrasse to the banks of the Kleine Emme (sign No. 3).

(1) Just before the bridge, turn left onto the Alpenpanorama Weg, follow the Kleine Emme to a junction and sign No. 3.

(2) Continue along the banks of the Kleine Emme for about 4 km. Pass under a flyover that crosses the river. You will reach the railway line.

(3) Cross the railway line and follow the path along the edge of the woods, which cuts across the circular bend in the Kleine Emme, running close to the railway line until you reach a left-hand bend.

(4) At signpost W, return to the banks of the Emme and gradually reach the foot of Werthenstein Abbey.

(5) At signpost No. 3, begin the steep climb up to the monastery.

(6) Admire the magnificent cloister, a must-see on the Via Jacobi.
After a bend, begin the descent towards the village of Werthenstein. Pass in front of the Holy Fountain. Take the covered bridge to cross the Kleine Emme and continue to the junction with Luzernerstrasse.

(7) Cross at the traffic lights, continue straight ahead until you reach the first small road on the left.

(8) Turn left at signpost No. 3 and begin a fairly steep climb through the forest. At the end of the steep climb, as you approach the first houses, you will find a bench and a signpost marked W.

(9) Turn left onto the path and cross a long field to the Hinder Höchweid farm.

(10) At the farm, follow the direction of the W sign and gradually enter the Wolhusen industrial estate.

(11) Continue straight ahead, cross a small bridge and walk through the industrial estate. Join Bahnhofstrasse and follow this road to the roundabout.

(12) Turn right onto Menznauserstrasse, which heads north. At the level crossing, cross the railway line and arrive at the Hotel Rebstock, your accommodation for the night (E).
