Description of the walk

Start from the car park near the church in the hamlet of Les Lombards (municipality of La Répara-Auriples).

Yellow markings

(S/E) Continue along the road, pass in front of the church and then turn right onto Chemin des Sources. Continue along a track, keeping a fence on your left, then at the edge of the woods, ignore the grassy path opposite and turn right. Continue along this track, ignoring the secondary paths on either side. Alternate between two flat sections and two climbs to reach a clearing surrounded by wire fencing (water catchment protection area).

(1) Leave the track and follow the path on the right that runs alongside the wire fence. Enter the woods and continue along a mule track on a slight incline. A few metres further on, look for a small path on the left (return). Continue straight ahead and you will begin to see the remains of walls, then pass the shoulder to go around the old castle. Ignore the paths on the right and continue on the opposite slope until you reach the corner of a cultivated field, still on a slight incline.

No more markings

(2) Take the less marked path on the left and stay in the undergrowth. Continue for about 50 metres and look for a small, barely visible path that starts between the larger oak trees on the right.

(3) Continue straight ahead on the well-marked path and reach the Trois Croix viewpoint with its orientation table.

(4) After enjoying the view, return to the fork in the path you spotted earlier, about 50 metres before the cultivated field.

(3) Take the small, barely visible path on the left, walk a few metres along the edge of the cultivated field on your right, then enter the woods. The route becomes a little more visible. Reach the ridge overlooking the catchment area.
Turn left, walk a few metres and look for a viewpoint about ten metres to the right.
On your return, head down into the valley, veering slightly to the left of the ridge, and follow it downhill. Pass through a slightly stony area and you will reach the mule track you took on the way up.
Turn right and follow the fence around the catchment area.

(1) Take the track downhill and follow the same route back to the car park in the hamlet of Les Lombards (S/E).

  2. 1 : km 0.79 - alt. 438 m - Fenced clearing on the right.

Notes

The viewpoint is very exposed to the Mistral wind. Avoid in strong winds.

(3) A small path that is not very visible at the start but becomes more clearly marked further on. A few wooden discs suspended from a ribbon serve as markers (March 2021).
On the descent, a short rocky section can be slippery in wet weather.

Worth a visit

The church in the hamlet of Lombards has been beautifully restored.

A very beautiful hike through the woods with a lovely view of the syncline when you reach the three crosses. Our four-year-old daughter loved the "hidden" part of the trail to the left after the crosses. We recommend following this trail with the app.

It was a very windy day for this hike. No tarmac, mostly walking through the woods, ideal in summer for a shaded route. The view from the three crosses is fantastic. The wind took our breath away. The route is difficult to follow, but the few yellow markings are in good condition. The app is a great help. The elevation gain is close to 400 metres.
I recommend it and thank the author and our guide.

A lovely circular with a beautiful view at the end. The first two climbs on the trail are a bit steep, but from the water catchment point onwards, the path is very pleasant. It was cloudy, so visibility was limited, but I'll be back 😉. Peatland and orchids lined the path, it was very beautiful. When you reach the fields, a handmade sign indicates the three crosses; take the path on the left.

A very pleasant walk, the main attractions of which are the magnificent view from the orientation table at the three crosses and the ruined walls of the old castle or village. It's very windy up there when the mistral is blowing!
The path is steep at the beginning but the walk is fairly short.
The route is easy to follow. The yellow markings have been freshly repainted.

A very pleasant route to do in warm weather. Nice and cool in the undergrowth and breezy when you reach the viewpoint. Not much space at the top for a picnic in the shade.

A very enjoyable family walk with our two grandchildren, aged 5 and 2½, who had no trouble walking the whole way. A pleasant mix of countryside and woods, with some beautiful views.

One detail: note that it's quite a steep climb up to the catchment area. This is also indicated on the car park sign.
