Description of the walk

Park in the car park at the end of Rue du Lutzelbach.

(S/E) Head up the path marked with a Yellow Cross; a steady, easy climb in the shade. You’ll come out onto a forest track.

(1) Cross it and take the path marked with a Red Rectangle crossed out in white opposite.

(2) Pass the Fontaine du Chevreuil and continue to the next crossroads.

(3) Turn left to follow the path marked with a Red Rectangle until you reach Château du Haut Ribeaupierre.

(4) The highest point of the hike, the castle is currently being restored: the tower is expected to be accessible in 2025. Then descend via a direct path towards Château Saint-Ulrich: take care, there are difficult sections over rocky ground, one of which is secured by a handrail. Reach the castle.

(5) Head off to the left and you’ll soon reach Château du Girsberg.

(6) Turn back towards Château Saint-Ulrich.

(5) Turn left onto the path marked with a Red Rectangle, known as the Chemin de la Gloriette. Please note: there are difficult sections through rocky terrain, one of which is secured by a handrail. You will emerge opposite the Lycée Ribeaupierre.

(7) Turn left then right to reach the car park (S/E).

Hello,

Was water flowing from the deer fountain? In summer, I often saw it dry.

A magnificent autumn hike! The climb is on the north side, allowing you to enjoy the sun on the descent to the south-west. Our 6-year-old coped well with the distance and elevation. There's a wonderful picnic spot at Ribeaupierre Castle. And how can you resist the beauty of Saint Ulrich and Girsberg? In my opinion, the descent is dangerous in wet weather for inexperienced hikers (very rocky). I also preferred doing this route downhill rather than uphill (i.e. in the direction of the trail)!
To be repeated in the spring.

This is one of my favourite walks, and you really must do it in the direction indicated: a gentle climb for about an hour to reach the highest point, where Ribeaupierre Castle stands. After that, there’s a succession of remarkable sites and viewpoints. Be careful: the descent is quite steep but secured with ropes to hold on to.
