The start is at the car park just before the border between the hamlets of La Bourbe and Le Gravier, on Chemin des Berthets.
(S/E) Cross the boundary and follow the stony path which climbs and heads north-east. You will reach a house further up on the left, at an elevation of 1179 metres.
(1) Just round the corner from the house, head sharp right onto the steep, stony path, which is in poor condition. Continue climbing without leaving this track. After a very slight descent, you’ll reach Creux du Croue at an elevation of 1372 metres.
(2) Enjoy the view and, at the junction of the various paths, head along the pasture on your right (south-west) and follow the signs for Le Noirmont. Ignore all the small side paths and stay on the main track, which is very well signposted and visible. Continue the climb to reach the summit of Le Noirmont des Français at an elevation of 1547 metres.
(3) Enjoy the view and continue on your way, heading slightly downhill but staying close to the stone wall. Look out for a chalet on the opposite slope and a signpost a little further up the slope.
(4) Change direction and head towards this barely visible post (south), but follow the clearly visible path through the grass. Continue between the bushes and boulders to climb up and reach the summit of Noirmont at an elevation of 1,567 metres.
(5) Then begin your descent, heading south-west from the summit cross. Reach the top of the downhill ski runs and continue along the marked path, ignoring the coloured signs for the winter slopes. The descent then continues more directly through the forest to reach, much further down, a junction with another path at an elevation of 1307 metres.
(6) Turn left to reach some meadows. Stay on the marked path, which changes direction and heads south-west again. Further on, you’ll reach a path that branches off to the left and right into the valley.
(7) At the junction at an elevation of 1270 metres, turn left uphill towards the Coppettes farm (elevation 1321 metres). Walk around it.
(8) Behind the farm, the path runs for a few metres along the wall, then turns right to join the main path which climbs up the valley (north-east). Follow it without straying from the track until, much further on, you reach the Arzière farm (elevation 1445m).
(9) Walk past the farm and, at the junction, head north-east along the wall. Continue through this wild valley until you reach a crossroads with a view of the Croue farm (elevation 1433m).
(10) Leave the path on your left. Continue climbing towards the farm and go round it on the left, following the white track. After a few metres, you’ll reach a crossroads with large noticeboards.
(11) At the crossroads, take the white track on your left, heading north-east. Continue along the track. Further on, the path changes direction twice, but don’t worry – no other paths cross yours. Then cross a pasture and reach the Creux Devant farm at an elevation of 1,476 metres.
(12) At the junction leading to the farm, turn right towards Mont Sâla. Follow this small path uphill to reach the summit (1,511 metres).
(13) After enjoying the view, turn back and head back to the Creux Devant farm.
(12) Turn right (north) onto the tarmac road towards the forest. At the edge of the woods, you’ll reach a junction at an elevation of 1,450 metres.
(14) Continue straight on to reach the Creux à la Neige, a “chasm” by the side of the path. Continue your descent, ignoring the side paths, until you reach a large junction of four tracks (alt. 1,290 m).
(15) Take the white path heading left, due west. Stay on this track, which runs halfway up the slope and winds its way from farm to farm through meadows and copses, eventually reaching a house and the original junction.
(1) Walk past the house and head down the path. Cross the border again and return to the car park (S/E).
