Description of the walk

(S/E) Continue along the track heading north for 1 km. There is a ford on the right.

Yellow markings

(1) Altitude 969. Leave the track on the left. Climb steeply to the left into the forest. The path climbs in numerous hairpin bends. The first fork on the IGN map is not visible on the ground. However, a little further on, at around 1060 m, continue climbing to the left, leaving another path down to the right.

(2) Turn left and climb slightly up a grassy track for 150 m. Leave the track, which ends a little further on the left.
Turn right onto a path that climbs steeply through the forest, heading north-west. The path climbs at a steady gradient. Numerous hairpin bends make it easy to progress.

(3) Flat, open area. View of Canigou. Continue to the left. The path climbs less steeply for about 500 m, then rises again, with numerous switchbacks making progress easy. Pass the ruins of La Gazarde farmhouse on these switchbacks. From 1,500 m, the path continues to climb in numerous switchbacks.

End of the yellow markings

(4) Collada Gran. Small open, flat area. The view is superb at this point.
Please note: turn left into the forest and climb steeply up a ridge line in the forest. The path is very well marked on the ground.

(5) You will come out into the open and continue towards two small wooden enclosures containing two interesting orientation tables. Then descend towards the pass in the direction of the track. There is an enclosure, a pond and directional signs.

Yellow markings. Small wooden posts

(6) Coll de les Basses. Look for a large yellow drinking trough. Climb up to its left and follow the yellow-painted wooden posts. The path heads west , climbing through the pasture.

(7) Cabana d'en Miquel, which is actually a large, well-preserved orri (stone hut). There are some basic benches inside, which can be very useful as it is very windy here.
Continue north, still following the painted wooden posts. Go around the point at an altitude of 1925 metres on the left.

(8) A large cairn marks the altitude of 1921 metres. The Coll de Bise is 5 metres below.
Turn around and head back to the orri. This is a beautiful spot for a well-deserved break. There is a 360° view.
Then take the path back to the watering hole.

End of the yellow markings

(6) Coll de les Basses. Return by the same route.

The yellow markings are very sparse and old until Collada Gran.

(4) Caution: see practical information section (²).
Turn left at a 90° angle into the forest on this gently sloping path. There are some beautiful views.
However, caution is advised in some places. Concentration is required.
You will have to cross numerous còrrec where torrents flow. These passages are not equipped and can be difficult to cross.
Cross the first two còrrec.

(9) The Còrrec del Gerdonar crossing is not easy. The path has disappeared.
Be careful: crossing requires some attention. (8 October 2020).
Then descend to the waterfall. Take your time. Keep your footing steady.

(10) Caution: cross the Còrrec del Gerdonar again. The path is very damaged and descends more steeply.
The most difficult part is crossing the Còrrec du Vall de cal Cabús at a magnificent waterfall, whose beauty will reward you for all your concentration.
Cross another còrrec in a flatter, more open area.
The path widens and you can see that there used to be a track.

(11) Arrive at Cal Cabús (Cal Cabous). This is a farmhouse where work has been suspended. It is also a cemetery for 4L cars. Continue along the grassy track.
Cross a concrete bridge/ford over the Còrrec de les Miquelets. Yellow markings are present. Join a wide track.

(12) Turn right onto the wide track suitable for vehicles (Piste des Estables).
Go through an electric fence and close it behind you. The track makes a sharp left turn. There are the ruins of a large old farmhouse on the left in the next right turn. The track makes a sharp right turn and then turns completely around a hairpin bend.

(13) Continue left on the same track heading southeast. Leave the ford on your right.
Go through an electric fence and close it behind you. Join a track (Route Forestière du Miracle).

(14) Follow the right-hand branch, descending slightly. Cross a concrete bridge/ford.
The track will become concrete. Continue this long descent along the right bank of the Parcigola (Parcigoule) on your left. Throughout the long descent, there are beautiful viewpoints where you can stop.

(1) Continue straight ahead on the track and return to the car park (S/E).

Notes

(¹) After the farm (S/E), it is possible to go further with a high-clearance vehicle and park near (1).
(²) On the way back, at (4) after heavy rain, in case of rain or after a storm, do not continue to the left, but turn right to return by retracing your steps.

Water is available at the start just after the farm on the left and at the watering trough at Coll de la Basses, taking water at the level of the float with a filter or disinfectant tablets. Sheep and cattle herds are present.
There is adequate shelter at the Cabane de Miquel (orri).

This is a mountainous area. So, as you would expect, you will need: rain gear, water, snacks, a GPX route, a description, a map, a GPS or the Visorando app, a camera, good walking shoes and a walking stick.

This route passes through a protected area, which may be subject to special regulations:

Worth a visit

At Coll de la Basses, Cabane de Miquel and the cairn above Coll de Bise, there is a 360° view.

Hike completed by the author on 4 November 2019 and 8 October 2020. Slippery dead leaves on the ground. Numerous difficult còrrec passages. The path is rutted (9) and after (10) due to heavy rain. This section has not been repaired. The path has disappeared: tricky passage.

We did this trail on 8 August 2025. It was very wooded and sheltered from the sun. A real pleasure. We stopped at the two orientation tables, of which only one remains, with a breathtaking view. The route was very easy to follow and, as usual, well documented. On the way up, the path is blocked by fallen trees, but these can be easily bypassed. The highlight is the waterfall, where we stopped to cool off.

Be careful when parking: the farmer isn't the friendliest. There are two options:
park before the farm (about 200 metres) and turn right onto a small path that leads down to a house, or
at point 1, but be careful on the track as you will need a high vehicle to get through some difficult sections.
We didn't see anyone else during our hike except for the cowherd at the Col des Basses.
In conclusion: a superb hike... but don't tell too many people if you want to keep it quiet!

We completed the circuit yesterday, sheltered from the heat. It is a very wooded route but with a variety of tree species. We did not climb up to the Cabane d'en Miquel, contenting ourselves with the extraordinary view from the orientation table at the Col de les Basses. The circuit is easy to follow. There are a few obstacles to note, including fallen trees, some of which are probably very recent. The waterfall is magnificent and refreshing. I would recommend avoiding this route after a period of rain (several areas of mud). Very quiet area (only two people seen all day, plus two mountain bikers).
