Start from Allinges Church. Car park located between the D233 road and one side of the church (if there is no space, park in the car park on the square opposite the church façade).
Signposts are present at all major junctions. Yellow arrow posts are found at intervals, indicated in the description only where necessary. This system is supplemented by markings along most of the route.
Blue Circle markings (usually on the ground)
(S/E) From the car park next to the church, with your back to the church, take the small road opposite which leads up towards the castles. At the end of the tarmac road, after about a hundred metres, turn right onto a shaded path towards the castles’ car park. At a fork in the road (signpost), take the path on the right and walk on fairly level ground through the woodland.
At a T-junction, cross a stream and follow a wider path on the left. Climb steadily up this stony path through the woodland. Ignore a path leading down to the right (this is theGRP®® Littoral du Léman) and continue climbing, following the occasional red and yellow markings. At the top of the hill, you will find the car park for the castles on the left.
(1) Turn left onto a small road towards Château Neuf and Château Vieux. Climb up, pass under two successive stone arches and enter the grounds of Château Neuf. At the top of the hill, you’ll reach a junction with signposts.
No signposting
(2) Turn right towards the chapel, pass by a statue of Saint François de Salles and turn left onto the castle terrace to visit the chapel. Retrace your steps.

(2) Head towards the viewpoint opposite (panoramic view of Lake Geneva). Continue to the right (north-east) towards Château Vieux. Walk down alongside the railings, pass an information sign on the right-hand side of the path and continue towards the ruins of Château Vieux. Climb up to the ruins via a path and steps on the left-hand side (north). Pass through a gap in the wall and then under a narrow archway. Turn right to climb up to the foot of the keep (a small terrace with a flagpole flying the Savoy flag).
(3) Head back down and continue to the right (east-northeast), staying on the north side of the ruins. Walk down along the railings and, at a signpost, turn left. You will reach an information panel. Leave Château Vieux through a gate in the surrounding wall.
No signposting
(4) At the junction immediately after leaving the enclosure, take the path on the left towards Allinges (the main town). Descend via several hairpin bends. At a right-hand hairpin bend (signpost), leave the path and take a narrower track to the left (be careful not to miss this inconspicuous turn-off).
Red and yellow markings
After a few dozen metres, at a junction, turn left (marker; look for a signpost further on). Descend along a wide path and ignore the vague paths branching off to the sides. At the junction at a place called La Rottaz (sign saying “Altitude 585”), turn left towards Allainges (the main town).
No markings
After a few metres, at another junction, turn left (west) and continue downhill. At the houses and as you approach the D233 road, turn left and climb briefly up a stony path. After a few metres (marker post), leave this path, take a grassy path to the right and pass at the foot of a boulder on the right-hand side.
Climb a path interspersed with wooden steps. At the top, follow a faint path that veers to the right (do not take the wider path further to the left). Opposite a house, turn right and head downhill. Return to the first junction encountered on the way out and continue straight on to the church (S/E).
