The route starts from the town hall square in Villard-Saint-Christophe, located south of Grenoble, not far from the Route Napoléon and the Matheysine lakes (Laffrey, Petichet and Pierre-Châtel).
(S/E) From the square, head right towards the south for about 50 metres to reach the Pierre-Châtel road. Turn right and go down the road for about 250 metres until you reach a fork on the right where the stream on the right (La Jonche) crosses to the other side of the road.
Turn right (Les Drouyves) onto Chemin de Souler and continue for about 300 metres to the foot of a descent where you will find a path to the right towards "Prés dessous" (signposted), which you should take.
(1) When you reach the "Prés dessous" sign, continue in the direction of "Les Creys". The rest of the route is straightforward; simply follow the only path available. The route takes us through the undergrowth with a few viewpoints and, on the crest of the hill, we find two signs (see photos) explaining the geology of the area. Continuing on, we descend the hill and arrive at a place called "Les Vorges".
(2) We could head straight south on the right, but we are only 250 metres from the 45th parallel, where a work of art installed by the municipality of Cholonge marks its location.
I therefore suggest we walk these 250 metres northwards.
(3) Retrace your steps and head south again along the Villard-Saint-Christophe road.
We still have about 2.5 km to go on the road between Cholonge and Villard-Saint-Christophe to return to our starting point (S/E).
