This route starts from the Maison des Cascades car park. It can leave from 2 other locations (see Practical Information).
(S/E) Head towards the Maison des Cascades. Turn right onto the path that runs alongside the stream.
(1) The first and most imposing waterfall is actually a series of jumps. Continue up the steps and footbridges.
(2) After reaching the top of this first waterfall, continue along the perfectly marked path that follows the Hérisson.
(3) At the top of the stairs, turn right and follow the Saut de la Forge sign.
(4) At this crossroads, turn left at the restaurant and continue as far as Moulin Jeunet. Go past it and, at the next crossroads, turn left onto the footbridge.
(5) Cross the stream on the footbridge, climb the path that ends near a group of chalets and turn right onto the road to the hamlet of La Fromagerie.
(6) Keep to the right, passing between 2 shops and statues carved from tree trunks. Continue on the GR®559A.
(7) Turn right, cross the Hérisson and turn right again to reach Saut Girard. Continue along the stream.
(5) Continue straight on, leaving the footbridge on your right that you took earlier.
(4) Continue, bending slightly to the right.
(3) At the Château Garnier crossroads, turn right and cross the Hérisson. The path is on the right shortly after the crossing and slopes gently upwards.
(8) A few metres before the road, turn left and follow the only marked path with a few yellow markers.
(9) Rejoin the D39 without crossing it. Turn left up the steps to the Belvédère de l'Éventail. When you reach the lookout (with a bird's-eye view of the Éventail and the valley), turn around and take the first path on the left (do not go up the stairs). Continue along this path, which runs almost parallel to the road.
(10) When you reach the road, cross it to take the fairly wide path opposite. Continue until you enter the village of Ménétrux-en-Joux. Go around the chapel to the right, onto the main road.
(11) Cross this road, leaving Rue des Rochettes on your right. Turn right into Rue des Cascades (parallel to the road). Before the last building, turn right, then left at the next crossroads.
Continue along this path (GR®559), allowing you to breathe in the shadows of the forest.
When you arrive at the Maison des Cascades, depending on the season, you may need to adjust the car park to find your vehicle (S/E).
