Description of the walk

Start from the Col du Wettstein. The car park is located on the side of the D11.6 road, near the junction with the D48.

(S/E) Leaving the car park behind you, turn carefully right onto the D48 and walk past the Wettstein National Necropolis. Ignore the first path branching off to the right and continue for about 100 m.

(1) Take the path marked with a Red Disc on the right. You’ll come out at a bend in a forest track: there’s a bench here with a lovely postcard view of the valley.

(2) Take a path on the right after the bend. Pass a bench with a lovely view of the valley and the farms and reach a three-way junction.

(3) Head down to the right and almost straight ahead, following the Red Disc markings. You’ll reach the Ferme-Auberge du Rain Chênes.

(4) Take the road on the right, walk for about 300 m and take a sharp left onto a wide path, passing alongside a garden on private land (but access is permitted).

(5) Turn right, passing two turnstiles installed by the Club Vosgien d’Orbey. Once on the Route des Basses-Huttes D48 (with a small cemetery opposite and the Basses-Huttes stream below), follow it to the right, climbing carefully up to Sainte-Catherine Church.

(6) Follow the Chemin de la Mossure uphill to the left, then turn right at the three-way junction.

(7) At the bend in Chemin du Rain des Chênes, follow the path climbing up to the left, marked with a Blue Rectangle crossed with a White Rectangle. You will reach a junction with a forest track.

(8) Cross this and climb the path opposite, following the Blue Rectangle and White Rectangle markings. You will reach the Ferrebœuf crossroads, which is very well equipped for a break. There is another option 30 metres further up with a large table and benches in the shade.

(9) Take the path on the left and walk for about a hundred metres to reach the Pierre Tremblante (believed to have been used as judgment stones several centuries ago).

(10) Return to the Ferrebœuf crossroads.

(9) Head back down the path you came up on, keeping to the right.

(8) At the crossroads, take a forest track down to the left (Yellow Ring markings). Once you reach the edge of the forest, ignore a path on the right and follow the markings. Pass an open shelter with a bench by the side of the path, and reach a junction.

(11) Turn right, following the Yellow Ring markings, pass the Source Catherine and negotiate a long right-hand bend. At the end of the bend, keep left and walk for about 250 m.

(12) Take a sharp left-hand bend and follow the path marked with a Yellow Rectangle crossed by a White Rectangle. Cross a forest track, rejoin the path opposite and continue to the junction with the RD11.6, opposite the German military cemetery.

(13) Cross the road very carefully and, once on the other side, take the steep climb to the left, following the Yellow Rectangle markings. Reach the junction with the path on the right leading to the Linge Memorial.

(14) Continue straight on, passing a blockhouse and trenches with information panels. You will soon reach an area where several paths and tracks intersect, and where the GPX track will be very useful.

(15) Pass the turnstile on the right and follow the path marked with the Yellow Ring. Head to the Glasborn farmhouse inn: there’s a lovely view from the terrace.

(16) After a possible stop, go round the back of the farm. When you reach the access road to the inn, at the bend, take the path on the left: GR®532 – Yellow Rectangle. Follow it to the Col du Wettstein to return to the car park (S/E).
