Set off from the small car park in front of the garden in the valley, near the road.
(S/E) Leave the garden on your right and follow the road towards the Moulin de Brandard.
(1) Just before you reach it, take the path on the right and, immediately on the left, follow the path running alongside the River Betz until you cross it over an EDF pole.
(2) Then follow the river to the right as far as the wash house.
(3) Turn left and rejoin the road.
(4) At the wash house, turn right until you reach the junction with the D219.
(5) Turn right and head uphill (watch out for traffic) after the bridge, round the bend, until you reach the ‘main road’ sign. Cross the road (watch out for traffic) and take the path downhill to the left (note that this section is sometimes poorly maintained).
(6) Follow the Chemin du Roy, which runs alongside the river through woodland and then edges past the fields before joining another path.
(7) Head downhill to the left to reach the Moulin de Madame, where you’ll cross the river via a small bridge or by fording. Go past the mill until you reach a path on the left.
(8) Take this path and, a little further on, turn sharply right and continue for a good hundred metres.
(9) Turn left and continue to the junction with the D219, which you passed earlier.
(5) Cross the D219 (watch out for traffic) and follow the road opposite, in the opposite direction to your outward journey, as far as the wash house.
(4) Opposite the washhouse, head up the path up the small hill to the right, following the sign for “Rochemort bas”. Take the first path on the left until you reach a cross-path called the Chemin des Trépassés.
(10) Turn right onto this path and, at the top, turn left until you reach another path.
(11) Turn left, walking alongside an orchard until you reach the woods; follow the fields and head down into the woods towards the valley until you reach a road.
(12) Turn right and continue straight on, following the river to the riding centre. Take the road on the left and cross the river again (two bridges) near the Moulin du Gros Lot.
(13) Turn left and return to the starting point (S/E).
Access to the Chemin du Roy is indeed difficult to see when it's not maintained.
