Access: just before Mezel, coming from Riez, take the D17 on the right, pass through the hamlet of Palus, and follow it to the Chabrejas car park about 15 km away. This very picturesque departmental road is worth seeing in its own right. Please note that it is very narrow, making it difficult for vehicles to pass each other, and should be avoided by drivers who are prone to vertigo. Do not use this road with a motorhome. Limited to 3.5 tonnes.
At Les Blaches (sign on the right-hand side of the road), park at the entrance to the track on the right-hand side of the road. It is also possible to park further up after the bend in the D17 road below Saule Mort at the start of the unpaved track.
(S/E) From the Les Blaches car park, take the steep path on the left of the road that cuts across the bend and, after joining the D17, walk about 700m to reach a well-maintained track on the left (parking for two cars possible).
(1) Signposted "Saule Mort, Majastres, le Poil". Follow the good track which climbs steeply and, after a few hairpin bends, passes the Lodge de Saule Mort, which can be seen on the right on a promontory. Stay on the main track and you will arrive at a small pass. Then descend under the canopy until you reach the small Clovion stream. Cross it via a bridge and continue to a fork with a bridge on the right that spans the gorge (attractive potholes in the gorge).
(2) Leave it on your right, along with the track that leads to Majastres, and climb the track on the left (north) that follows the Ravin du Village to the abandoned village known as "le Poil".
(3) The school and the old town hall have been restored by owners who are originally from the village and live in the surrounding area, as have some of the buildings and the church, whose ruins have been reinforced. In the square, there is a beautiful fountain-wash house with benches and a shaded picnic area.
The village was named "Le Poil" (translation of the Provençal "Lou Peu", "Le Pieu") because of the steep rock above it against which it is built and which is visible from far away.
Before leaving, take a look at the small, very moving cemetery.
To leave, climb up to the ruined church, then take the mule track, which is in fairly good condition, down behind the village until you reach a good track, which you take to the left (on the descent, there are one or two fairly steep sections due to erosion of the path, but these are not difficult in dry weather).
(4) Just opposite the end of the path, follow a path to the Étang aux Serpents (Snake Pond) and then return.
Take the downhill track and stay on it, ignoring all the paths and drovers' roads to the right and left.
(5) After a long descent and several hairpin bends, pass a beautiful inhabited building on your right, then another in poorer condition on your left at a place called La Prée. Continuing downhill, the track runs alongside the Clovion again, but this time on its right bank. Then cross the river on a concrete footbridge. Continue to follow the track, which climbs steeply, leaving all the tracks on your right until you reach the D17 road.
(6) Opposite, take a track that first descends and then climbs very steeply. The track is in very poor condition, with deep ruts and gullies. It will take you around the Chabrejas massif and back to the 1017 coast at the Blaches car park.
(7) When you reach a small pass, leave the two tracks on the right and take the one on the left that climbs up to our cars. Go through a barrier and return to the car park, which is about 100 metres away.
