Start from the car park, large traffic island at the entrance to the village. Beautiful view of the Valensole plateau.
(S/E) Cross the village, passing in front of the town hall, then continue along Rue de la Forge towards the east and turn right onto Rue Saint-Joseph.
(1) Then take the street that climbs sharply to the left (Saint Joseph oratory), then after 20 metres turn right onto the small Rue du Four. The street quickly turns into a path after the last house (former hospital). Then pass under the ruined ramparts of the castle.
(2) When you reach the road, turn left to walk alongside the castle and reach the church esplanade, which offers a beautiful view of the village, the Valensole plateau and part of Provence.
Retrace your steps, passing the castle again, and rejoin the road.
(2) From here, follow the road to the right. It turns into a wide track that climbs gently for 2.5 km.
(3) At the fork, keep right (source of the Auvestre 500 m away), stay on the track and ignore all the side roads.
(4) Continue along the track, which further on turns sharply to the right.
(5) At a crossroads, turn left and continue along the track for 400 m to elevation 1148.
(6) Then take a small marked path that climbs to the right into the forest.
(7) At the intersection that you will soon come to, ignore the path on the left. You will soon reach an unnamed pass and a crossroads of marked paths.
(8) Take the yellow-marked route that climbs left towards Agra. This is where the serious work begins. The rocky trail climbs in a series of short zigzags to cross a small cliff. Above, it continues to climb in wider switchbacks.
Then, you alternate between passages in the woods and open passages offering beautiful views of the plateau and part of lower Provence as far as the Var mountains. And the path continues to climb in wide hairpin bends. It is impossible to get lost, as there is only one trail and it is marked. The path leaves the forest for good and reaches the ridge.
(9) Turn left and climb north-northeast to reach the summit (lookout, orientation table).
(10) Take a path on the right, marked in yellow, which descends into the rocks to the east of the lookout. It enters the forest and descends steeply, then joins a track.
(11) Turn left, north-west, onto this track until you reach a crossroads at Col de Saint-Jurs, often used to store piles of logs.
(12) Continue north for another 20 metres and look for a path (normally marked) on the left that heads southwest and crosses the forest. It descends in a straight line on very stony ground.
(7) Follow the path you took on the way there to the right and rejoin the track.
(6) Follow the track to the left, heading south-west.
(5) Continue along the track that descends to the right (the opposite direction to the outward journey) for 400 m.
(4) There are two options for the return journey:
- Continue left on the track you took on the way there.
- As shown on the map, leave the track and take a path on the right which is quicker and more "natural" but less pleasant underfoot.
(3) Return to the track and follow it until you reach Saint-Jurs.
(2) Leave the road that extends the track and take the path on the left that you took on the way there.
(1) Turn right to return to the starting point (S/E).
