Description of the walk

Vehicles can be parked without any problem at the side of the main track after Saint-Jurs.

(S) Head north-east and take the track leading downhill behind the barrier. Ignore the tracks branching off to the right and left and continue to a crossroads. Turn left to reach the bottom of the valley (Ravin de Demandols).

(1) Follow a grassy track to the right which leads onto a path heading due north. Turn left to follow this path, which leads onto a track at the Col de l’Huby. A well-equipped hut in good condition may offer you shelter if needed.

(2) Follow the track to the left for a few metres, then turn left onto another track blocked by boulders. This track heads north-west at first, then curves sharply to the left.

(3) From this point, the routes seem to multiply. Consequently, it is essential to have at least a map (and to know how to use it) or a GPS track. However, having reached this point, it would be a real shame not to go all the way. Head south-east to reach the Huby viewpoint.

(4) This rocky viewpoint offers a particularly unobstructed 360° view with lovely vistas towards the Allos mountains and beyond. The return journey follows the same route.

(2) Turn left and take the descending track.

(5) At the start of a left-hand bend, take the path to the left of the track; it rejoins the track about 250 metres further on.

(6) Carry on straight ahead and follow the track for a few hundred metres.

(7) Leave the track and take a path on the left (be careful not to miss this junction). This path ends a few metres from the gate on the track leading to the Trévans Lodge.

(8) Turn right, go through the gate and follow the track to the lodge.

(9) Trévans Lodge: ruins and a centuries-old oak tree. Turn back.

(8) Back at the gate, follow the track westwards.

(10) At a gate, turn left, go through it and follow the track, which includes a steep section. Go straight on at every junction until you reach a plateau with an active forestry operation (oaks).

(11) At the junction, take the path straight ahead – which is sometimes heavily overgrown with broom – and continue straight on until you reach a wide track.

(12) Continue straight ahead along this track. After crossing a ford, turn left to reach a small road. Remember to close the electric gate (handle).

(13) Then turn left to return to the vehicle(s) required for the shuttle (E).

Notes

(2) The hut at Col de l’Huby is open and welcoming.
There is a water supply at the Trévans Lodge (presumably a spring), but no indication as to whether the water is safe to drink.
There are no other springs along the route.

(9) Possible alternative route: walk past the lodge and take the north-west-facing path which leads to the Delasse footbridge over the Estoublaisse.

I did this route solo over two days, starting and finishing at the bottom of Saint-Jurs.
At the end of the circular route, I descended to the bottom of the gorges before heading back up, turning left before the Trévans Gorges car park towards the Château shelter to spend the night there. The shelter was in good condition, and the fireplace was most welcome (5°C in the morning when it was freezing outside).
For the return journey, I wanted to follow the route described in this guide, but between points 10 and 11 there was a large fenced-off area, so I turned back and headed down the track. I tried to go round it via the top, but all I found were gorges overgrown with vegetation.
Once I reached the small road between Estoublon and St-Jurs, it seemed a long way, but it was still a pleasant walk.

To sum up: a pleasant short hike in the low mountains, passing through pine forests and heath. Beautiful stony tracks on the edge of the Trévans Gorges and a gentle descent through scree down into the gorges. A secluded mountain hut set in lush surroundings.

Day 1: 20 km, Day 2: 15 km
Total: 35 km, 1,550 m elevation gain.

A pleasant walk. As I was on my own, I did this walk without a transfer. I set off from the car park at the entrance to the village. On the way back, once I’d reached the road, I managed to avoid following it all the way by taking a path on the right.
I’ll do it again with friends, using a shuttle, but starting from Saint-Jurs.
Thanks for this route.

I went back there with some friends. They really enjoyed the walk. The path leading back to the start has been cleared!

Too many trails and not enough views, but it gave me the idea for another circular route for my group that would take in part of this route
Thanks
