The Tour du Kemberg

The Kemberg massif is well known to the people who live nearby. The Tour du Kemberg is well shaded with fairly wide paths.
Simply follow the blue circles and signs. Ideal for getting back into shape or for families, with no major difficulties.

Description of the route

To get to Les 3 Fauteuils: from Saint-Dié station, head towards Foucharupt, go straight ahead and then, at the top, turn right onto Rue du Kemberg and left onto Route Forestière (RF) du Kemberg and go uphill.

(S/E) At the 3 Fauteuils site, go up near the shelter and look at the map there.
Then take the path on the left of the road you took to get here.
You will then pass the "pissing fir tree" and continue down a pleasant descent.

(1) Go straight ahead on the tarmac path where it goes uphill (if you turn right, you will pass under the Saint-Dié bypass and end up behind the station).
Shortly afterwards, on the same uphill stretch, keep left and finish the climb to the next intersection, where you will go straight ahead, leaving the tarmac.
This section can be quite fast as, apart from other mountain bikers, you will encounter very few people (this is true for the entire route, except on Sunday afternoons).
Back on the (very old) tarmac, continue straight ahead and keep left when the two roads become almost identical.
At the end of this climb, there will be a wall on the left, and just after it, turn left: you are at the Granrupt Reservoir.

(2) Take the path on the right and follow it until you reach the intersection with the forest road.

(3) At this intersection, turn left (if you turn right and walk downhill for a few metres (200 m), you will arrive at the Anozel Kiosk, where you will find a map of the Kemberg Massif and where you can take a break for a snack if you wish).
Continue straight ahead and stay on this path until the next crossroads.

(4) Turn left onto the same path until you reach Les 3 Fauteuils (S/E).

Waypoints

  1. S/E : km 0 - alt. 459 m - Trois Fauteuils car park
  2. 1 : km 2.9 - alt. 408 m - Go straight ahead on the tarmac road.
  3. 2 : km 8.9 - alt. 469 m - Granrupt Reservoir
  4. 3 : km 10.74 - alt. 461 m - Turn left onto the forest road.
  5. 4 : km 11.99 - alt. 455 m - Turn left onto the forest road.
  6. S/E : km 13.9 - alt. 459 m - Trois Fauteuils car park

Notes

By mountain bike or on foot. This hike is actually the path that gives access to all the "climbs" of the Kemberg (see photos).
For families with children, you can plan a small snack at the Kiosque d'Anozel or at the water reservoir (departure towards the Pierre de Laitre) about halfway along the route.

Variations
(S/E) Starting from Les 3 Fauteuils, continue climbing on your mountain bike along the tarmac road until you reach the end and (a few metres further on) take the Sentier des Chèvres (GR®533) on the left, which I love, and you will arrive at the Granrupt Reservoir as described in the description.

(2) At the reservoir, you can climb up in front of you (reservoir on your left) for 200 or 300 metres and then descend on the left.
Continue along this path to the end and you will come to a wide path again.

Worth a visit

Things to see: "Pierre de Laitre", "Le Sapin qui Pisse" (on the path), "Les Trois Fauteuils", "Le Kiosque d'Anozel" (on the path), as well as wild strawberries or blueberries (and even chanterelles) in season.
Roche de l'Enclume, Roche Saint-Martin, Roche d'Anozel and the paragliding launch pad are magnificent spots with breathtaking views and steep descents (some difficult, some not) for experienced mountain bikers.

All these places can be reached from Les 3 Fauteuils (or any other point on the tour: you just have to climb).

No problem,
(except when you exit the underpass beneath the motorway, you need to understand that you have to turn right and follow the signs for "Tour du Kemberg" as indicated). Right from the start, when you begin a hike, the tracker's directions are a little confusing.

Otherwise, very good.

Hello
In fact, all you have to do is follow the signs for the Vosges club indicating the Kemberg tour and follow the "navy blue circle" signs that mark this route.
It's impossible to get lost.
The description was for mountain bikes, but on foot it takes between 2 hours 50 minutes and 3 hours.
Kind regards, Daniel Megel

A magnificent 13-kilometre route in the heart of a forest overlooking ST DIE DES VOSGES -88- in the mid-mountains. The signposting was perfect, with no risk of getting lost. The colours of nature in this autumn season were simply superb. Lots of mushrooms, the sun's rays filtering through the undergrowth: nature is so beautiful when you take care of it... In short, a superb day under a glorious sun. Congratulations VISORANDO for this valuable information on the Kemberg tour.

Most of the activity takes place in the forest. Six-year-old Raphael accompanied me on his mountain bike. Variable terrain, suitable for families on foot as well. Picnic areas available. Three hours.

Hello,
In preparation for our holiday in the Canary Islands , we started walking again, and this walk was ideal for getting back into shape.

The directions to get there were very clear. The path is perfectly marked. The route is also used by cyclists and runners. This route is truly versatile.

Thank you for this walk!
