Tour of the hamlets from Cussay

Start: Les Prés Carrés (lake).
Parking: spaces near the sports grounds.
Yellow signposts.

(S/E) Go up Rue des Prés Carrés towards the RD31. Cross it carefully and continue along the street opposite towards the town hall and church.

(1) At the roundabout in front of the church, continue straight ahead, then turn left towards La Maraudière.

(2) After passing through the hamlet, turn left towards La Bruyère. At the end of the road, continue on the path to the right, then at the intersection, turn right again towards La Brangerie.

(3) At the Brangerie crossroads, continue on the road opposite towards Ferme Blanche and the RD99.

(4) Cross it carefully and continue on the path opposite, into the woods. After walking alongside a field and then back into the woods, you will come out into a small clearing.

(5) Turn onto the first path on the right and continue straight ahead through the woods, then through the fields, until you reach the end of the path.

(6) Turn right, then left. The path becomes a road. Continue to the junction with the RD53.

(7) Cross it carefully and continue along the road opposite until you reach the junction with the RD31.

(8) Cross it carefully and continue on the road opposite towards Les Bellards. Go to the end of the road.

(9) Turn right onto the path to follow the woods and a property. After seeing the lake on the right, turn left onto the first path. Stay on this path until you reach the intersection with the D99. Cross it carefully and continue on the road opposite towards La Bosnière.

(10) After the first house on the right in the hamlet, turn right onto Chemin des Deux Bosnières. At the end of this road, turn left onto the road. After the last houses, the road becomes a track. Follow it. Continue when it branches off to the left until you reach the intersection with a road.

(11) Cross it, continue straight ahead, opposite, on the path through the fields. At the end, turn right to cross the small stream, then left to go back up to the plateau. At the crossroads, turn right and continue straight ahead. Continue on the road and, at the crossroads, continue on the path opposite to arrive at the castle grounds.

(12) Drive along the estate. At the bend, turn right onto the path through the fields. Stay on this path towards the village and the stream.

(13) After crossing a stream, turn left along it. Cross it again on a footbridge and follow it to the right to go back up towards the lake and your starting point (S/E).

Descartes, city of the philosopher.
Not far from Cussay, extend your walk to Descartes. The town has been home to several writers, but the most famous is the one from whom it has borrowed its name since the^19th century. René Descartes was born in this town, then called La Haye-en-Touraine, in 1596. A museum has been set up in the philosopher's birthplace, where you can learn about his life and work and see a portrait of him from his time. The town also offers many activities and is a great place for a stroll, particularly in the René Boylesve garden and along the banks of the Creuse.

Starting from Ligueil, there are two circular walks: Balade entre l'Esves et la Ligoire (9.6 km) and L'Esves dans son écrin (9.4 km). You will also come across the blue signposts for the Civray-sur-Esves circular walk (21.7 km).
