Return to the Col du Boenlesgrab and its large car park.
(S/E) From the car park, take the wide path that runs alongside the farmhouse inn on the right, which climbs slightly. Leave the first track on the left and continue until you reach some houses on the right.
(1) At this large crossroads, turn left onto a wide path and continue until you reach other buildings.
(2) The wide path comes to an end; turn left onto a small trail. After 100 metres, it turns sharply to the right and follows a low wall. Follow the trail down to the edge of the forest; it is not always clearly marked. At the next intersection, continue left on the small trail and exit the forest. Return to a wide path that descends, winding its way between buildings, to reach a farmhouse inn.
(3) Walk alongside the Wasenmatten farmhouse and leave the wide path after about 100 metres, taking a path that climbs up through the thatched roofs on the left. Follow this small path to the pass.
(4) At the pass, take the road opposite which climbs slightly towards another farmhouse inn. Just after passing it, leave the road and take a small path that climbs steeply through the stubble to join the road higher up.
(5) Cross the road and continue opposite on a small path on the mountainside. The path passes through scattered trees, then approaches the forest and soon overlooks a house. Continue along the contour line until you reach a fence and a path that climbs up the shoulder of the mountain.
(6) Descend the shoulder until you reach a T-junction and turn left onto the wide, almost flat path. Stay on this wide path, ignoring the paths branching off to the right. Continue like this until you reach the Rothenbrunnen farmhouse inn.
(7) Just before the farm, turn left to pass above it. Cross a road to continue opposite on the small path, then do the same with a wide path. Reach the refuge above. Pass over the wide path above and at the intersection turn left to climb directly towards the visible summit.
(8) From the summit of Petit Ballon, descend for a few metres along the spruce hedge, then leave it for a path that crosses the stubble; stay on the path. It describes a wide curve, then at the intersection, turn left to continue descending. Enter the forest and continue straight ahead until you reach a ruin.
(9) Keep the ruins on your right and continue downhill on a narrow path with sharp bends. The path widens; follow it downhill until you reach the Col du Boenlesgrab (S/E).
