Description of the walk

(S/E) From the church square, take the D70 towards Crespinet.

(1) At the first junction, turn left onto a small farm track.

(2) After Couveignes, leave the tarmac and take a dirt track on the right. Continue downhill and follow the road to La Mélonié.

(3) Turn right onto a dirt track leading to Les Farguettes: the church and cemetery belong to the fortified house dating from the late 14th century.

(4) Return to La Mélonié and turn right onto a small track between the houses towards the Tarn.

(5) Turn left onto the D700 and follow it for about 200 metres.

(6) Turn left back onto the small tarmac road leading to La Mélonié.

(7) After crossing a stream, turn right onto the path that climbs into the woods.

(8) When you reach the ridge and a junction of paths, turn left and then immediately right as you head downhill.

(9) At the hamlet of Pécotte, follow the D700 to the left along the River Tarn.

(10) At the bridge, cross the Aygou and turn left onto a small tarmac road towards Saint Cirgues

(11) As you approach Le Périé, at the cross, turn left and go through the hamlet.

(12) On leaving Le Périé, take a track on the right which leads down towards the river. Cross the river at the Le Périé mill and head towards Régagnac.

(13) At the crossroads, follow the road straight ahead.

(14) At the next junction, turn left.

(15) Turn right straight away to return to the starting point (S/E).

A lovely walk, but not for "beginners"; it’s quite challenging, with a lack of signposts in two or three places, and a few sections overgrown with vegetation. But despite all that, it’s definitely worth doing.

A varied and very pretty route. Not very busy, with a bit of tarmac, but no problem.

Good evening

The short version mainly follows paths through the woods on the right bank of the Aygou.

I suggested this longer route, which heads down into the Tarn valley and does indeed involve a short stretch of tarmac on a small road for day walkers.

Of course, there’s the Serenac Forest to the north of the village, but that’s a different walk altogether!

Given that the forests of Sérénac are among the wildest in the Tarn department, why is there so much tarmac… even if they are ‘minor’ roads? It’s a great shame!

Unfortunately, this hike is marred by excessively long stretches of road (tarmac); of the planned 5 hours 45 minutes, 2 hours 30 minutes are spent on the road.
It’s a shame, as the area is unspoilt.

Hello,

I don’t understand that comment. I’ve done this route at least twice – on my own and with a group of 30 people – just two weeks ago!!

A route that looks interesting at first glance, but I haven’t done it yet. Why not include a ‘not done’ tick box? Or perhaps I’ve misread it.
