(S/E) From the car park at the Maison Forestière de Malpey, walk to the forest house and take the track that passes in front of it, heading due south. You will come to a junction of tracks.
(1) Take the track on the left, which is closed to road traffic by a barrier.
(2) At a place called Cantine du Porfait, continue straight south along a track until you reach a crossroads.
(3) Continue along this beautiful track, which initially heads north-west. At the next fork, keep right. You will then reach a junction at a small stream.
(4) Leave the main track here and take the path that climbs to the left, heading south. You will come to another intersection of tracks and a path.
(5) Turn right, walk past the scree for about 30 metres and find the path that climbs to the left. Follow the trail to the Sommet des Malavalettes. "Note the few eucalyptus trees on this section, whose barkless trunks are bright white."
(6) From the summit, the highest point of this hike, there is a superb view of Saint-Raphaël and the sea. Continue eastwards and join a track. Turn right and continue straight ahead, heading south.
(7) Caution: this is the start of a steep descent where you will sometimes need to use your hands. Walking sticks are invaluable on this section. After this tricky but beautiful descent, you will come to the Carrefour de Colle Noire.
(8) Take a wide track on the right towards the ruins of the old Maison Forestière des Malavalettes. Pass the ruins and continue downhill until you reach an intersection with a path on the right at the bottom of the valley.
(9) Leave the main track and turn right, heading north-west along the path that runs alongside the Vallon de la Cabre. You will reach another intersection where the path heads due north.
(10) Then take the track on the left which crosses the ford and leads to the Col de l'Essuyadou.
(11) Turn right onto a track. Further on, you will reach the Carrefour de Roche Noire.
(12) Take the second track on the right, heading north-west then north along the hillside, offering superb views. You will reach another crossroads at around 360 m.
(13) Continue north-west. This last section is very pleasant and leads gently downhill to the fork in the road you took on the way up.
(1) Continue straight ahead to reach the car park at the Malpey Forest House (S/E).
