Description of the walk

Access: Go to Sainte-Consorce (a commune west of Lyon) via Marcy l'Etoile or Saint-Genis-les-Ollières. Park in the carpool car park or the car park of the community centre (below the town hall) near the school complex.

(S/E) From the car park, walk back up to the town hall.

(1) At the "Sainte-Consorce" signpost, between the museum and the illuminated sign, take Avenue des Combattants (2nd on the left). Pass the statue of "Sainte-Consorce" on your left. Enjoy the view of Lyon and the wide panorama of the Alps and Mont Pilat, then continue straight ahead along Chemin du Charmillon.

(2) Leave Chemin de la Brossonnière on your left, then 20 m further on, Traverse du Charmillon (no entry). Continue on Chemin du Charmillon. Cross the hamlet and take the grassy path at the exit. Descend towards the first crossing of the Ratier. The climb up the Ratier is quite steep with rocks (difficult with a pushchair).

(3) At the crossroads of the trails at Grandes Terres, turn right and enter the woods. After crossing the Ratier again, climb up the wooded valley alongside the waterfalls. Leave the dirt track on your right and join the Grand Croix where you will cross the old Vieux Bourg - Pollionnay trail, known as the Route Napoléon III.

(4) Continue straight ahead for 800 metres towards the hamlet of Valency. There are beautiful views of the village of Sainte-Consorce to the east and Pollionnay and the ridge line (GR®7) to the west. When you reach the CD 99, Sainte-Consorce - Pollionnay, turn right onto the road towards Sainte-Consorce for about 300 m. Be careful of traffic here.

(5) Take the first dirt track on the left (after the high-voltage power line). Leave the track that descends to the left. Nice view of the Monts d'Or. This track is paved from the first house you come to as you climb back up and leads to Chemin du Tronchil.

(6) Turn right, pass the Grande Borne and continue straight ahead until you reach the junction with Rue du 30 août 44. Turn left and then right to return to the town hall and then to the car park (S/E).

Worth a visit

- Musée Antoine Brun (at the start of the walk, Avenue des Combattants): 180 models (out of 400 originally) made from lime wood and carved with a knife by Antoine Brun, a 19th-century peasant artist who never left his native village. They represent a relief map of the city of Lyon and monuments from France and around the world based on magazines and postcards from the period.

- Statue of "Sainte-Consorce" (Avenue des Combattants, 200 metres from the start). She is showing her parish church, Notre-Dame de Fourvière. Panorama: admire the Monts d'Or, the Alps and Mont Blanc, Lyon and, to the west, Mont Pilat and the Monts du Lyonnais.

Nice walk.
Unfortunately, the rain forced us to shorten the route.

Hike completed on 26/01 in gloomy weather. It must be very pleasant in warm weather. We really enjoyed this route with little traffic on tarmac and a well-marked trail with beautiful views. We saw Mont Blanc despite the weather.
Thank you

A beautiful walk, taking 1½ hours, easy level. I highly recommend doing it on a clear day so you can admire the view of Mont Blanc right from the start of the hike.
The trail is very well marked and easy to follow.

A very beautiful hike without any major difficulties.
Alternating between open views (Lyon, the Alps, the Monts d'Or, Pilat) and pretty paths through the woods.

Sunday walkers, this walk is for you! In fact, I'm one of them, and there were lots of us out this afternoon.
Unsurprisingly for the end of January, the paths were muddy but still passable. It's best to wear walking shoes, otherwise your trainers will be ready for the washing machine.
Just like the slightly longer walk also found on Visorando (Balade du Ratier à Pipora), it's best to do it in reverse to enjoy the view on the way down in the second half.

Very good guidance. I did this walk on my own, having just arrived in the area. A pleasant walk, but not very shaded. Very hot in the afternoon.

A very pleasant ride along most of the route with some lovely views, but a shame about the tarmac on the last quarter.
Be careful on the short section of the D99 road. However, it would be difficult to avoid this without changing the route.
The description is reliable, but I would add that you should follow the yellow markings, especially after crossing the stream at point (3)
As a point of interest, the Antoine BRUN Museum is also worth a visit

An immersion in nature just a stone's throw from the city. Stunning views, lush countryside, a pretty stream and beautiful little waterfalls. Horses all along the way. Perfect. Thank you. Guillaume and Patricia

Completed after the snow melted, the paths were occasionally muddy but remained very passable. A very pleasant route. The paths are generally open to the distance and the views are very interesting.

lovely view of Lyon and the Monts du Lyonnais and numerous meadows with horses throughout the hike; when we did this hike in cold weather, we even walked on a snow-covered path and encountered patches of ice on other paths

A lovely little walk for someone from Lyon to get out of the house during the three-hour lockdown.
Pleasant paths.
