Access: Go to Sainte-Consorce (a commune west of Lyon) via Marcy l'Etoile or Saint-Genis-les-Ollières. Park in the carpool car park or the car park of the community centre (below the town hall) near the school complex.
(S/E) From the car park, walk back up to the town hall.
(1) At the "Sainte-Consorce" signpost, between the museum and the illuminated sign, take Avenue des Combattants (2nd on the left). Pass the statue of "Sainte-Consorce" on your left. Enjoy the view of Lyon and the wide panorama of the Alps and Mont Pilat, then continue straight ahead along Chemin du Charmillon.
(2) Leave Chemin de la Brossonnière on your left, then 20 m further on, Traverse du Charmillon (no entry). Continue on Chemin du Charmillon. Cross the hamlet and take the grassy path at the exit. Descend towards the first crossing of the Ratier. The climb up the Ratier is quite steep with rocks (difficult with a pushchair).
(3) At the crossroads of the trails at Grandes Terres, turn right and enter the woods. After crossing the Ratier again, climb up the wooded valley alongside the waterfalls. Leave the dirt track on your right and join the Grand Croix where you will cross the old Vieux Bourg - Pollionnay trail, known as the Route Napoléon III.
(4) Continue straight ahead for 800 metres towards the hamlet of Valency. There are beautiful views of the village of Sainte-Consorce to the east and Pollionnay and the ridge line (GR®7) to the west. When you reach the CD 99, Sainte-Consorce - Pollionnay, turn right onto the road towards Sainte-Consorce for about 300 m. Be careful of traffic here.
(5) Take the first dirt track on the left (after the high-voltage power line). Leave the track that descends to the left. Nice view of the Monts d'Or. This track is paved from the first house you come to as you climb back up and leads to Chemin du Tronchil.
(6) Turn right, pass the Grande Borne and continue straight ahead until you reach the junction with Rue du 30 août 44. Turn left and then right to return to the town hall and then to the car park (S/E).
