To get to Sainte-Consorce (a commune west of Lyon), take the Marcy-l'Étoile or Saint-Genis-lès-Ollières route. Park in the carpool car park or the community centre car park (below the town hall) near the school complex.
(S/E) From the car park, walk up to the town hall. In front of it, head north on Rue de Verdun until you reach the first crossroads. Take care when crossing Route Marc-Pollionnay. In good weather, you can see Mont Blanc due east above the road that descends to Marcy-l'Étoile.
(1) Continue straight ahead on Chemin du Raymond. Note the view on the right of the Lyon metropolitan area and the Monts d'Or with their highest point: Mont Verdun.
(2) At the crossroads, leave Chemin du Raimon and turn left onto Chemin du Berthier. At the bend, at the bottom, do not take the dirt track on the left but continue along the road that descends into the forest towards the Larny stream, crossing it via a small bridge. The climb up Berthier is followed by a descent overlooking the Poirier stream.
(3) At the Y-junction, turn right towards Château du Poirier, signposted 600 metres ahead. Shortly after crossing the stream, on the way up, take the path on the left to Château du Poirier.
(4) When you reach the road, turn left onto Chemin du Haut Poirier heading due west. Pass Sept Les Pléiades (a children's home) and Mont Plomb (384m) on your right.
(5) After passing under the high-voltage line, near a pylon, take the left path at the Y junction. As you approach the RCCL (Radio Commande Cars Lyonnais) Karting track, follow the fence until you reach the Route de Larny. Cross it and take the dirt track directly opposite, which climbs to the left. At the first junction, turn left heading due south.
(6) When you reach a crossroads, take the road opposite that goes downhill (Chemin de Chatanay) and arrive on the Lentilly road (D70), which takes you to the hamlet of Larny.
(7) At the chapel (above the road on the right), go down the dirt track on the left. It follows the Larny stream, which sometimes crosses the path!
(8) When you reach a small road, turn right. Cross the Larny stream and head up towards Tronchil. Leave Impasse du Tronchil on your left. Admire the view of the Monts d'Or and northern Lyon. You are now on Chemin du Tronchil.
(9) Pass Grande Borne and continue straight ahead until you reach the junction with Rue du 30 Août 1944. First turn left then right to return to the town hall and the car park (S/E).
