From Chatellerault, head towards Naintré, then take the D23 towards Scorbé-Clairvaux, then the D21 towards Colombiers. Drive to the town hall square and its sign.
(S/E) At the sign, turn right towards the hairdresser's, then turn left uphill towards Naintré. Follow the Route des Vignes on the left-hand side to reach the junction with Rue Traverse des Carriers.
(1) Turn left to begin the circular route. Further up, leave Chemin Les Bois de la Valette on your left and arrive at the top of the plateau at a Y-shaped intersection (intersection of two routes marked with yellow arrows).
(2) Turn left. When you reach the Croix de l'Ascension, turn left onto the grassy path, which becomes a pretty sunken path between a copse and a meadow. Then, at the T-junction, go up the path on the right before the houses. Walk along a field, pass a vineyard and continue to the road.
(3) Turn left, then at the next crossroads, turn right onto a stony path. At the intersection, in front of a wooden hut, turn right onto a wider dirt track. At the majestic oak tree, descend to the left along the fence, leaving the woods behind. Descend this grassy then tarmac path with a view of the other side. You will arrive at a charming house at the end of the path.
(4) Turn right and walk past some cave dwellings. At the intersection, go up to the left (red fire prevention signs) into the woods. Leave the path on the right. Continue straight ahead on the main path (the other route comes from the right) between the Rouhet woods and the Clos Barrault woods until you reach the second intersection. The ground is often muddy.
(5) Turn left, following the partially collapsed walls, and carefully descend the steep, stony path. At the three-way junction, turn right towards the hamlet of La Bertalière.
(6) Continue along this path through the woods until you reach the road, ignoring the various adjacent paths. Cross and head towards Les Essarts, between woods and fields. At the next intersection, turn right onto a clearer road. You will come to a star-shaped crossroads.
(7) Take thesecond road on the right. Further on, ignore a path on the right. At the crossing, continue along the road, passing the water reservoir on the left.
(8) Before the descent (house below), turn right onto the first dirt track. Stay on this well-ventilated track despite the woods. At the T-junction, take the stony track on the left, ignore the adjacent tracks and continue on this track between woods and vineyards until you reach the junction with Route Colombiers-Beaumont.
(9) Go down to the left and immediately turn right onto the wide main path, ignoring the various adjacent paths. At the four-way junction, go straight ahead to the next fenced-off plot.
(10) Turn left onto a grassy path between the trees. Then go down a sunken path with a covered middle to Rue de la Perroterie.
You can visit the Envigne viewpoint by taking this street on the left.
Turn right to descend between cave dwellings. At the first crossroads, turn right onto Traverse des Carriers and return to the initial fork.
(1) Turn left onto Route des Vignes to reach the car park (S/E).
