In Anduze, park in the car park to the south of the town, near the submersible bridge, between Rue du Luxembourg and Rue Pelico. This hike is not marked as such.
(S/E) Return to the town via Rue du Luxembourg and, at the crossroads with the main street, Plan de Brie, with the temple on your right, find the Anduze-Mairie signpost and turn left towards Rocher Saint-Julien.
You will soon reach another intersection at the Fontaine Pradier fountain. Go around the fountain on the right, then turn right onto Rue Neuve and then right again onto Rue Pérot. At the next intersection, follow the signs for Fontaine de la Pagode on the left (town sign).
(1) Pass to the left of this glazed tile fountain, then turn left onto Rue Notarié. You will arrive at Place de la République.
(2) Continue straight ahead, passing the Église Saint-Étienne on your right. At Place René Cassin, continue straight ahead, then when you reach Rue de la Treille (street sign on the wall opposite), turn left (Rue Coste). At the end of this street, climb a few steps and continue to the right on a paved slanting street to reach the start of a path carved into the rock, marked with yellow signs and roped off at the very beginning.
(3) Follow this very steep path, keeping an eye out for the yellow markings so as not to follow pseudo-paths in the cliff. This steep path is to be followed there and back. Be aware of the difficulty of the descent. When you reach the "Pentes de Saint-Julien" marker, follow the signs for Rocher de Saint-Julien 0.3 km to the left. The path continues to climb at a more reasonable pace to the summit.
(4) Saint-Julien signpost. Beautiful view of the Gardon river below and the cliffs above it. Begin the descent by following the signs for Pentes de Saint-Julien 0.2 km. Back at the "Pentes de Saint-Julien" signpost, take the steep path you took on the way up.
(3) At the bottom, just after the short roped section, ignore the yellow markings, turn right to pass in front of a ruined house, then descend towards the town on a paved slanting street. Ignore a lane on the left and descend a few steps. When you reach a street, turn left to arrive at Place de la République.
(2) Pass to the left of the Fontaine de l'Église fountain and then go down a few steps towards Rue des Olivettes. Cross it and continue straight ahead on Rue de la République. You will arrive at Place Notre-Dame (fountain on the left) and turn right to follow Rue Sainte-Marie. Turn left and go down a few steps to arrive at Place des Troubadours. Turn right to reach Place Berthezène, then go up Rue Meynadier on the right.
(1) At Place Couverte, with the Pagoda Fountain, turn left and follow the one-way street (Rue Droite). You will come out onto the town's main street, Plan de Brie. Follow it to the left, passing in front of the temple, then turn left onto Rue Pélico to reach the car park (S/E).
