Parking at the Larnod stadium. Yellow-blue and yellow-red markings. Some sections are unmarked but easily identifiable.
(S/E) Pass the stadium and the wooden barrier and take the forest path down to the right. Towards the bottom of the hill (metal sign 12, half erased), when you see the pasture below between the trees, cross a straight path and go up to the left. You will arrive at the esplanade where masses are held in memory of the resistance fighters who were shot. Continue straight up, passing in front of the altar to reach the Belvédère du Rocher de Valmy viewpoint. Take the time to admire the view of the valley, especially downstream where the Doubs river forms one of its most charming meanders.
(1) Facing the valley, leave the viewpoint on the right and follow a small path that runs along the ledges a few metres away. After turning right, you will come to a wider path which you will follow downhill to the left. At the "Rocher de Valmy" sign, you will come across a hiking trail. Cross it and go up the path on the other side. At the top, join another path perpendicularly, which you will climb to the left, getting closer to the ledges, while remaining cautious, and enjoying beautiful views of the Doubs valley.
(2) You will come to a small stone marker (on your left) and continue straight ahead towards the opening in the box trees for a view of the Mont du Fort de Planoise. Return to the marker and descend to the left for about twenty steps. On your left, there are two paths. Take the first one, on the far left, and descend about fifteen steps towards the stone arch of La Roche Trouée. Go back up and turn left, following the ledges. The path soon turns sharply to the right and descends the hillside to the bottom.
At the bottom of the hillside, cross the wider path and continue straight ahead along the path opposite, which joins the stony hiking trail a hundred metres further on.
(3) Then turn left. When you pass a small clearing on your right, you will come to a fork in the trail. Continue straight ahead along this stony path to reach the hamlet of La Maltournée.
(4) Continue left for about thirty metres, then turn right onto Chemin des Combards until you reach the next fork. Climb left onto the stony path to the D142 and continue uphill to the stony path marked by the signpost "Sentier découverte de Larnod" (Larnod discovery trail). Turn right onto this path and, 200 metres after a farm shed, look for a path on the left that runs along the embankment and leads to Fort de Pugey, of which only the ramparts and moats remain (picnic table).
(5) Walk around the fort and continue to the edge of the meadow for a view of the Jura mountains, in particular Mont Poupet. Return to the fort and leave it via the stony path. Quickly locate the dirt track on the left (shortly after a signpost) which will take you under the old walls. When the track joins the meadow, go down to the right along the path which leads to a cave.
Return to the pastures and descend to the right, following the wooded edge with views of the Doubs valley and the Montferrand keep. The path enters the pretty Malpertuis woods. Quickly, at the fork, continue straight ahead at a leisurely pace on this beautiful, wide path that runs along the ridge.
(6) Be careful! Look out for a sign on the right inviting you to descend the wooded hillside via a path (more or less visible). If you miss it, don't worry, you will soon come across a barrier and signs from an owner who apparently does not appreciate hikers! Turn back at this point.
You will arrive at the pastures.
Go straight down to the small road, turn right and then left at the next fork, going up the hillside towards the village. When you see the cemetery, cut across the circular loop by going straight up the stony path.
(7) In the village, turn left into Rue de la Maltournée, then continue down Route du Village on the right and, at the next crossroads, go straight down to return to the car park (S/E).
