The starting point is in the car park of Larnod cemetery, Chemin du Repos.
(S/E) With your back to the cemetery, turn right onto the path leading downhill. You will come to a crossroads with a tarmac farm track. Turn right and head south. A few hundred metres further on, you will come to an intersection with a grassy white path leading downhill on your left.
(1) Take this path up between the fences, go through a wooden gate and enter the woods on your right. Continue along this path on the side of the embankment, which is slippery in places. Shortly afterwards, you will reach a path that crosses your trail.
(2) Keep to the far left, come out into the meadows and continue along the edge of the forest. Cross the first hedge and go around the next one, as the path has disappeared into the brambles. Shortly afterwards, you will see a path leading into the forest. Take three steps along this path and turn left towards the Malpertuis Cave. The porch is visible from the top of the path.
(3) Return to the meadow and keep left. At the corner of the field, climb up to the right and cross the hedge over an embankment filling the protective ditch of Fort de Pugey. Once you arrive at the site, take the time to explore this historic place and continue on your way, staying on the gravel path leading to the fort. Pass in front of the farm and join the D142 departmental road
(4). Turn right and immediately afterwards, take the white path on the left towards the signpost. Walk along the hedge and, at the end of it, head north-east towards the edge of the woods, following a faint trail in the grass. You will arrive at the intersection at the edge of the woods.
(5) Turn left, staying on the GRP®. Continue through the forest on this gently sloping path until you reach a large crossroads further on.
(6) Ignore the path that descends towards the village of Arguel. Follow the track ahead of you, which takes you to the ruins of Arguel Castle.
(7) Enjoy the view of the valley and turn back. Return to the previous crossroads.
(6) Take the path on the right, which descends slightly. Pass to the left of the large rock that has broken away from the hill and continue along this beautiful path. You will arrive at the edge of a pasture. Go through the fence and cross the meadow, heading west-southwest. Look for a small mast with coloured fabric (a marker for paragliders) and head towards it to get close to the viewpoint.
(8) Step over the fence and walk very carefully towards the rocky outcrop, which offers views of the Doubs valley, the village of Beure and Besançon. The path is very steep and slippery. The Grotte de la Chère cave is located just below the viewpoint, but is very difficult to access.
Return to the pasture and turn right, walking along the edge of the woods. Go through the gate and continue along the gravel path to reach the tarmac road of La Maltournée. Turn left and cross the hamlet. Pass a narrow section of the road and look for the entrance to the GR® on the right at the corner of a property.
(9) Take this GR® trail, which heads further west. After a slight left-hand bend, you will find a path on your right that branches off at a right angle from your route.
(10) Take this path; the slope soon becomes steeper. At the top, take the left-hand path towards La Roche Percée. Return to the main path and climb onto the rock arch for a view of the valley. Continue until, after a short descent, you reach a GR® crossroads.
(11) Head straight ahead towards Larnod au Su and cross a track shortly afterwards.
(12) Then take the fairly steep path up to the right. Further on, the path heads due south. Continue to the Valmy Monument and its viewpoint. "Visible from far away, the stele pays tribute to the members of the Guy Mocquet resistance group, who were all executed at the Citadel of Besançon."
Go down the access stairs and turn right onto the very wide path. You will come to a crossroads in the housing estate.
(13) At the crossroads, take the Chemin du Rocher de Valmy straight ahead. Further up, take Rue du Village on the right and continue, taking the left turn. A little further on, you will reach the crossroads with Chemin du Repos, which branches off to the right.
(14) Take this path and go downhill. After the right-hand bend, you will reach your car park (S/E).
. Very nice views, I really enjoyed it.
