Park at the end of the Route des Combrailles in the village of Chaptes, just before the three-way junction.
(S/E) Head left for a few metres along the Route des Combrailles. Look for a signpost indicating the walking route: Les vignes du Puy de la Loule. Opposite this sign, take the grassy path marked in blue.
You’ll come to a wash house; head slightly to the right, then at the junction turn left onto the white path. Continue straight on, ignoring the paths to the right and left, until you reach a T-junction at the end of this path.
(1) Leave the blue markings and take the path on the right. Continue up a gentle slope to reach a crossroads with several directions. Enjoy the lovely view here.
(2) Turn left and continue uphill. Pass under a power line and you’ll come to a junction with an aerial.
(3) Continue straight on towards Puy de Loule until you reach another crossroads with several routes.
(4) Cross this junction and head towards another junction directly beneath the power line. Turn left to begin the walk around Puy de Loule. You will then reach the junction below the hill.
(5) Turn right to reach the summit of Puy de Loule. Return to the junction and continue to the right to complete the loop and reach the junction directly beneath the power line.
(4) Take the path on the left; at the next junction, keep to the right, continue and pass under the power line again. Continue until you reach the junction by the mast you passed earlier.
(3) Carry on straight ahead, passing a new antenna before reaching a road junction at the interchange between the A71 and the A89.
(6) Turn left onto this tarmac road, head down to the large white house and turn left onto the tarmac track which becomes a dirt track again. You’ll reach a three-way junction.
(7) Turn right, take the left at the fork and stay on this track until you reach the Route des Combrailles. Turn left and then return to the car park in the village of Chaptes (S/E).
