At the northern exit of Riom, take the D2144 towards Montluçon until you reach Combronde. In the village, turn left onto Rue de l'Hôtel de Ville. Parking is available in front of the town hall.
(S/E) From the signpost in front of the town hall, go up Rue de l’Hôtel de Ville. Turn left onto Grande Rue, then turn right onto Rue Saint-Genès and continue until the junction with Rue du Général Desaix. Turn left and continue uphill along Rue Guynemer.
(1) At the three-way junction, turn right onto Rue des Santoux, then take the fork on the right, leaving the road to follow Chemin des Combes. Continue straight ahead along the meadow and cross a stream.
(2) At the first crossroads, turn right onto Chemin des Borots, then left onto the next street and continue for 50 m until you reach a fork.
(3) Take the street on the right and continue to a T-junction. At the end of Rue des Randonniers, turn left and keep right, following a property until you reach a crossroads.
(4) Take the path opposite that runs alongside the vineyards (vineyard arbour; view of the plain and the Bourbonnaise mountains). Continue straight ahead until the next junction, then turn right down into the woods until you reach the D19.
(5) Take this road to the left for 1 km
(6) In a large left-hand bend, turn right onto a path below the road. Continue until you reach a fork, then go left up to a T-junction in the hamlet of Les Ballages.
(7) Turn right and keep right to reach the Pierre Branlante site, a 20-minute round trip. (Be careful not to go down another yellow PR® trail called La Source and La Roche Branlante)
(8) Retrace your steps to the fork.
(7) Turn right, cross the village of Les Ballages, go straight down and back up to the D19.
(9) Take it on the left and, at the first bend, leave the departmental road and take a path on the right. This turns immediately to the left. Continue along this path through the woods until you reach a T-junction.
(10) Turn right to reach the next T-junction. Go down to the left and, at the first house, keep right until you reach a T-junction. Turn left to join Chemin des Borots.
(3) Turn right and follow the same route as on the way there to return to the car park in front of the town hall (S/E).
