Access and starting point: A75, exit 2, D2089 towards Bordeaux, at the first roundabout take the 4th left towards Romagnat. In Romagnat, park in the car park in front of the retirement home on Place François Mitterrand.
Markings: Yellow (Le Plateau de Gergovie)
(S/E) From the car park, go down the street and turn right onto Avenue de la République towards the town hall, pass in front of the town hall and take the first street on the right, Rue des Caves.
(1) At Rue de la Treille, turn right and continue along Allée André Guinard (second on the left). Go around the building opposite on the right and take the footpath that leads down to Rue des Fours à Chaux.
At Rue des Fours à Chaux, turn left and continue straight ahead on this street. You will pass Yves Guérin's metal sculptures.
(2) Take the path opposite, which climbs into the woods. At the edge of the woods, continue straight ahead until you reach the entrance to a meadow on the plateau (altitude 705 m). Turn left onto a footpath that becomes a track and continue to a scree slope at the top of the plateau (view of the Chaîne des Puys and the Clermont-Ferrand conurbation).
(3) Continue along the edge of the plateau (altitude 704 m) and take the second path on the right, which joins the road. You will pass some excavations.
(4) Just before the road, turn left, pass in front of the Fusillés monument and continue along this path parallel to the road until you reach the monument dedicated to Vercingétorix.
(5) Take the path that passes under the Maison de Gergovie, cut across a path and continue straight ahead, descending to the first houses of the village of Gergovie.
(6) Go back up the path on the left, pass a cross and continue straight ahead, passing in front of Puy Mardoux (a path leads to the summit).
(7): At the next two forks, turn right until you reach the first houses.
(8) At the first houses, take a path on the left and continue straight ahead until you reach the first houses in Romagnat (ignore the paths on the right and left). At elevation 499, turn left for 80 metres.
(9) At the stone cross, descend to the right. At the bottom of Impasse des Cerisiers, turn left onto Avenue de la République, reach the town hall and the starting point (S/E).
