In Romagnat, park in the car park at the roundabout at the junction between Avenue Jean Moulin and Avenue des Pérouses, near the sports facilities.

(S/E) Head towards the south-west corner of the car park and continue south on the path between the stadium and a pond. Continue in the same direction to cross Parc de Tocqueville, pass to the right of the château-mairie and exit the park onto Avenue de la République (marker posts).
(1) Turn left towards "Plateau de Gergovie Ouest", then take the first street on the right, Rue des Caves. At the end of this street, turn left into Rue de la Treille.
(2) When this street turns left, leave it and take Chemin du Puy Blanc on the right. Continue along this path, which climbs up to the Plateau de Gergovie, following the yellow disc markings. Further on, join a path and continue to the left. The path soon turns right, heading south. Further on, ignore a path that branches off to the left. Reach the top of the plateau at an intersection marked with a signpost for "Plateau de Gergovie Ouest".
(3) Turn left and continue along this path, heading east-northeast, along the edge of the plateau, ignoring all paths branching off to the right. At a fork, take the left-hand path (less muddy) which, immediately afterwards, turns right and passes close to an antenna. Leave the antenna on your left and, at the intersection, continue left to pass between a property and the restaurant. You will soon come out at the car park.
(4) Continue in the same direction, passing in front of the monument in honour of Vercingétorix, then, just before the museum, look for a path markedPR®® "Sentier du Puy Mardou" at an information panel about this path and a signpost marked "Plateau de Gergovie Est". Take this path down from the plateau. At the next intersection, continue on thePR®® to the right. At the intersection a little further down, ignore (phew!) the steep climb to the right and continue downhill to the left.
(5) Cross a path and continue straight ahead, still on the PR®®. Further down, just before the houses, ignore the path that branches off to the left and backwards. Pass between the first houses of the village of Gergovie to reach Rue Vercingétorix.
(6) Turn left. At the next intersection, turn right onto Rue du Fossé. Then turn left onto Rue de l'Abbé Olivier to reach Place Saint-Jean.
(7) Note the wash house on the right and the church slightly below on the left. Continue straight on Rue du Onze Novembre. Further on, take Rue de Langeroux on the right and, at the fork, continue left on this street. At the intersection, follow Rue Saint-Joseph to the right. This will take you to the start of Route du Plateau.
(8) Follow this road as it climbs to the left. Further up, when the road veers to the left, leave it and take a path on the right. Cross a path and continue straight ahead, continuing to climb. You will reach the top of the Gergovie Plateau at a small road, the D800, and a picnic area on the other side of this road.
(9) Follow the road to the left and, further on, continue along the path that runs alongside the road, still heading west. You will arrive at the west gate of the oppidum. Go behind the information board and the ruins to take a path that descends parallel to the road and joins it further down.
(10) You will see a signpost and a sign for Santiago de Compostela. Take the wide path on the right towards Romagnat. Continue straight ahead.
(3) Return by the same route as on the way there, i.e. continue straight ahead, ignore a path on the right and then, further on, follow the path on the right (yellow disc signpost).
(2). Turn left, then take the first street on the right, and finally the second street on the left. Find the entrance to Parc de Tocqueville on the right and cross the park, heading north, to return to the stadium and car park (S/E).
A hike to be recommended, with no difficulty.
