A walk that follows, for the most part, the Roupeyrac beech forest and offers beautiful views over the Lévézou.

Description of the walk

Car park: Durenque, near the pond, above the mill.

Yellow signposting

(S/E) Head down the access path to the Moulin de Roupeyrac (birthplace of the poet François Fabié), follow the hedge separating the mill from the grassy field, and reach the Durenque. Cross the footbridge, turn right onto the path running alongside the stream and, shortly afterwards, head uphill on the path on the left.
You’ll come to a track; follow it to the left, then rejoin the road and follow it to the right.

(1) After Chante-Coucou, turn right onto the Taille-Pau track, heading due south.

(2) Leave the track on your right and continue straight on along the forest track, still heading due south, then south-west.
Ignore the tracks and paths to the right or left and carry on straight ahead through the beech forest. On the left, barely visible, are the ruins of ‘Vieux Durenque’, an abandoned village.

(3) Ignore the alternative route (shortcut) and carry on straight ahead. Take the track on the left. Pass through a landscape alternating between farmland and woodland.

(4) Cross the Jabru and arrive at Le Rajol.

(5) Take the road on the right and walk through the hamlet. At the bend, ignore the road branching off to the right; head straight on towards Le Verdier, then turn left onto Rue du Four à Pain. To reach the bread oven, continue straight ahead.

(6) On your way back from the bread oven, turn left onto the dairy track, then go straight on along the Chemin du Verdier. At the bend, turn left onto the path lined with hedges, and reach Montméja after crossing a road, then continue straight on. In Montméja, follow the road to the right.

(7) In the hamlet, turn right onto Chemin de Roupeyrac (you’ll come back to the beech forest). Cross the Jabru stream, continue along the track, then take the path climbing through the woods.

(8) You’ll reach the end of the alternative route (on the right). Carry on straight ahead.

(9) Cross the Durenque twice (footbridges). Continue through the forest until you reach a clearing.

(10) Ignore the track going straight ahead and turn left onto the forest path.

(11) Leave the wide path that continues to the left and follow the path climbing straight ahead. Join the forest track at the junction you passed on the way out.

(12) Follow it to the left. Walk back along the section you covered earlier, but in the opposite direction.

(13) Just before the footbridge, near the mill, take a detour to the left to visit the flour mill. Return to the car park (S/E).

Hello Marcelle Marie,
Thank you for your comment.
Indeed, there are several walking routes in this area. To avoid any confusion, the description is very detailed.
As for the hot weather, if you did indeed go on this walk on Sunday 22 September 2024, I’m reassured… This morning, in Durenque, it’s raining and the temperature is 12°.
Enjoy some lovely hikes in our beautiful region with Visorando!

A really lovely walk, though there’s one point on the route where there are several signposts, so it’s important to have the Randonnée GPS app. Do be careful in the intense heat, though.

A lovely route, mainly through woodland, apart from a few open sections. Rely on the Visorando GPS, as one or two of the markers are incorrect or half-worn away, as several routes cross each other. If it’s very hot, as it was yesterday, set off earlier.
