Mont de Théoule

Coming from Mandelieu, head towards Port de la Rague, and at the first junction, turn right towards Maure Vieil. Follow the road up to park at marker 527.

(S/E) Take the Piste de la Cadière and at the first junction turn left onto the Piste des Mineurs. You will soon reach a junction marked by a cairn. Turn left onto a pleasant forest path which immediately becomes steeper. You will reach another junction at a hairpin bend.

(1) Keep left and enjoy the first views of Cannes, the hinterland and the Mercantour. Then wind your way between the rocks along the ridge of Mont de Théoule. You will reach a T-junction.

(2) Pass the path leading to marker 525 on your right, continue straight ahead, pass beneath Mont de Théoule, then turn right to reach the California viewpoint.

(3) Take the DFCI track downhill to the right. Return to the junction at marker 525, where there is a DFCI water tank.

(4) At the tank, leave the track and follow the wooded path to the left instead of the track. Head uphill to a new tank and then to the junction at marker 498. Take the Piste de la Cadière to the right. Reach marker 499.

(5) Turn left to quickly reach the Rocher des Monges via some steep steps.

(6) Return in the opposite direction to marker 499.

(5) Turn left and you will soon reach the large junction at Collet des Monges and marker 500.

(7) A few metres past the sign, there is a cairn. Turn right here onto this beautiful descending path, which after a few metres passes through a corridor—at times even a tunnel—of vegetation. Follow the first few metres of the Rivière de la Rague below. Upon exiting the woods, the path becomes a track. Continue to the junction of two tracks.

(8) Turn left, cross the Rague and a small valley overgrown with mimosas. Reach the edge of a eucalyptus wood.

(9) Continue straight on along this track through the eucalyptus area. Shortly afterwards, leave the track and take the path leading uphill to the right. Then descend and turn left at the T-junction. You will reach Pont Sarrazin, marker 483.

(10) Continue to the right on the Pont Sarrazin DFCI track, reaching the Chapelle de Maure Vieil, marker 482.

(11) Turn right towards Mandelieu-la-Napoule. Stay on this road, which is closed to traffic, until you reach the barrier and cross it on the left to return to the nearby car park at marker 527 (S/E).

Hiking boots and walking poles recommended.
No drinking water along the route.
Swimwear for the end of the hike.

(11) Chapelle de Maurice Vieil: now known as Notre-Dame de Labeur, built in 1967. Take the time to admire this chapel.
