Circular walk from San Peyre Park to the crest of Mont Turney de la Napoule

This hike begins with the climb to the summit of San Peyre and its orientation table. From there, you will need to be observant to take a small section of unmarked trail. The colours, smells and wind of the Estérel accompany us throughout this varied itinerary. The coastal path is an added bonus, enjoyed all year round.

Description of the walk

Park in the San Peyre Departmental Nature Park car park.

(S/E) Head towards thefirst bend on Chemin du San Peyre and reach marker 493. Take the paved path on the left through the forest, follow the signs for Sommet du San Peyre, and reach the summit.

(1) Walk past the ruins of the chapel, then take the keep staircase about ten metres further on to reach the orientation table, which offers a magnificent 360° panorama. Return to the foot of this structure, between the keep and the ruins of the chapel. On the east side, there is a low stone wall about 50 cm high. Climb over the wall. Below, you will find a cairn. Bend down, as a branch obscures the path, but it is definitely there. Follow the wooded path down to the water tower.
This structure is located in a grassy clearing, surrounded by a fence in poor condition. The path continues on the right, about 5 metres before this clearing. The path goes around the fence on the right before reaching a crossroads. Continue straight ahead at this intersection until you reach another crossroads.

(2) Turn right, almost 180°, at this crossroads. At the next crossroads a few metres further on, take the path on the left, also turning 180°. You will then reach the road called Avenue du 23 Août. Turn left and follow the sports trail that goes around the park. Walk past two blockhouses and a cemetery. Turn right at the crossroads. About ten metres further on, leave the Parc Départemental San Peyre via a small staircase that leads to Boulevard du Bon Puits.

(3) Cross the road carefully and take the path opposite, marked in yellow, through a wooded area. You will soon come to a crossroads marked by a cairn.

(4) Turn left and follow the path that leads into an urban area. At the dead end, turn right and you will reach a road.

(5) Turn right onto Boulevard des Crêtes and follow it to the end. The end of the boulevard turns into a path that you follow along the ridge until you reach marker 482 (not marked on the map).

(6) Continue straight ahead on this pleasant path towards Maure Vieil. The route winds through a reddish rocky area. At the crossroads with the large cairn, 60 cm high, continue straight ahead to reach a crossroads of paths that is completely eroded.

(7) Turn left onto the uphill path. Walk alongside the water tanks on your left and you will soon reach another fork.

(8) Turn left and follow the direction indicated by the "Itinéraire Pédestre" sign. Descend to thesecond marker 482 (also not marked on the map) at the four-way junction.

(9) Turn right onto the road towards Maure Vieil until you reach the chapel called Notre-Dame du Labeur, built in 1967. Here you will see another marker 482 (this one is marked on the map).

(10) Take the DFCI track on the left. Follow the direction of Pont Sarrazin. The Ravin de Maure Vieil offers a few waterfalls. Continue to marker 483.

(11) Before turning left at this crossroads, head right to see Pont Sarrazin (whose name comes from a legend). Walk 20 metres there and back. Take the uphill path, which is a stone slab. At the top of the hill, turn left. Continue to the four-way crossroads you passed earlier.

(9) Turn right, passing to the left of the barrier. Carefully follow this pothole-ridden road that runs alongside the Rague river. Follow marker 527 towards Port de la Rague - La Napoule. Continue to the road junction at marker 490.

(12) First turn right then left here, towards Port de la Rague. Pass under the Pont de l'Avenue de Lérins - D6098. Enter Port de la Rague. After the harbour master's office, turn left and walk along the cliff. There are a few small beaches with attractive waters along the path. Leave the beach via a staircase before a wooded area and follow the coastline again. Continue to marker 60.

(13) Leave the coastline and turn left at Plage Raguette. Then, immediately turn right onto Route de la Plage until you reach Avenue Henri Clews. At this point, first turn right then left onto a narrow street that passes between the shops and ends at the station's underground passageway. Cross Place de la Fontaine and continue for about 50 metres until you reach the Montée des Chênes Verts steps.

(14) Take this climb. At the top, turn left onto Rue Santo Reino and take Montée des Cigales immediately on the right, again via steps. At the top, turn left and follow Chemin de San Peyre to return to the Parc de San Peyre car park (S/E).

Hello gerardrando

Thanks, Gérard, for your review
The path leading down from the summit of San Peyre is a bit surprising, it’s true
Take the time to walk down this unusual path, winding through rocks and vegetation
Best wishes for your hike, b.

Like many others, I’d like to point out the difficulty, at point 1, of finding the path that leads off beneath the keep.
There is dense vegetation obscuring the path. Then the descent towards the cairn (a small cairn made of three stones, barely visible) is very steep, with numerous branches lying across this slippery path.
The rest of the walk is lovely.

Hello Espedaillac, thank you for your interesting review.

Hiker Coldom posted this review on 8 March 2026: “The path leading back down from the summit of San Peyre is a bit surprising, but you manage to find your way thanks to the signposts provided.”

__This trail is not shown on a 1:25,000 scale map
but it is shown on Orienteering Map No. 89, published in 2013 and updated in 2015__
If you take this path, it is no more dangerous than certain other hikes.

The sheep enclosure is an issue we cannot control. It is altered depending on the feed for the flock.

Your “Thank you for this route that you didn’t know” encourages me in my search for new routes
Hiking regards, b.

Hello,

I would like to return to the route to follow to descend from the summit of San Peyre DANGER below the ruins of the chapel. There is no passage that allows you to descend safely to the reservoirs. We made it down, but at what cost – another group of three people turned back. More seriously, I think the best thing to do is to climb up to San Peyre and return via the very comfortable path, which is well worth it, and then take the path below, which allows you to complete a circular route in good conditions. Another point to note is that there is little point in doing the circular route towards Pont Sarrazin. Be careful on this section, as there is a sheep pen which, if you follow the route, you have to cross by going through the gates, where there are sheepdogs. You can avoid this obstacle by going higher up and taking the path on the left. Thank you for this route, which I was not familiar with. Please note that we set the starting point at point 9 in the Rague valley.

Thank you, User 3209901, for your review.
The trail is just behind the low wall. A low-hanging branch obstructs the view
the view of the trailhead
Best regards, B.

No problem getting to the orientation table... but after that, we couldn't continue our hike because we couldn't find the trail, despite the explanations provided.

The trail that starts at the summit of San Peyre is a little surprising, but you can find your way thanks to the signs provided.
The section along the ridge between points 6 and 8 is very pleasant, and the red rocks that line it are reminiscent of Corsica.
Unfortunately, the housing development on the neighbouring ridge to the north detracts somewhat from the wild character of the place.
The return to the coast adds a special touch to this unique walk.
