Worth a visit

Shortly afterwards (S/E), the building housing the Musée des Ivoires and the Tourist Office was the former Commercial Court, built in 1790.

After (1) The Cahan-Lhermitte School. Here, the first boys’ school opened in 1882: the Cahan School (in 1967), named after the former headmaster. In order to improve educational conditions for girls, Mayor E. Lhermitte had a new school built next to the boys’ school. Inaugurated in 1908, it took the name Lhermitte in 1967. The school became the Cahan-Lhermitte School Complex following its merger with its neighbour in 1997.

(1) The residence of the Dames Blanches. The residence was originally an old textile factory. The nuns moved in in 1829, and the building thus became the convent of the Dames Blanches. A chapel was added in 1849. Today, the residence is a care home for the elderly (EHPAD).

(2) The Manoir du Fay. It was Pierre Houel, Sieur de Valleville, who had the manor house built between 1613 and 1617 on his estate at Le Fay. A few years later, Pierre Corneille came to visit his uncle, who was then parish priest of Sainte-Marie des Champs. The manor house served temporarily as a detention centre during the Revolution.

(4) Yvetot railway station. Built in the English architectural style, it was constructed in 1847 by William Tite. Yvetot station was opened on 22 March 1847 by the Rouen–Le Havre Railway Company when it commenced operations on the extension of the Paris–Rouen line.

(4) La Moutardière. A red-brick building constructed in 1912 near the station. Industrialists took advantage of the railway to expand their businesses. After the Second World War, the Bocquet company purchased the building, which had stood disused since 1939. For some fifty years, the factory produced the famous Bocquet mustard until it closed in 1992. The building now houses several businesses.

(5) Saint Pierre Church replaces the 17th-century church, which was destroyed by bombing in 1940.
Striking for its round shape and pink colour, it was built between 1951 and 1956.
It houses the largest stained-glass window in Europe (1,026 m²), created by Max Ingrand.
