Description of the walk

Park in the Belges car park.

(S/E) Take the passage between the buildings at the foot of the CE to reach Rue des Victoires.
Turn left, then cross Rue du Mail, pass Saint-Pierre Church on your left, and follow Rue Ferdinand Lechevallier. Pass the large crossroads and continue along the same street.

(1) Turn left onto Rue du Cordier. Follow it and take the path that continues on. The GR® 211C markings begin to appear; follow them for the rest of the route. Leave the small tarmac path by taking the path on your right to go under the D131E road.

(2) Junction of the GR® 211C and GR® 211A. Leave the GR® 211C and follow the GR® 211A to the right as you enter the woods. The path turns left. You may spot roe deer in the woods. The path turns right and further on to the right again to reach a field. Follow the fence on your left; the path is barely visible as you reach the Caudebec road.

(3) Climb the embankment and cross the Caudebec road (watch out for cars) to take the path opposite. At the end, turn left into Rue de l’Église. At the church, turn left and follow Rue Hutcheson.

(4) At the cemetery, turn right and take the path, continuing straight on. When you reach the road, turn right and, further on, take the path on the left and follow it to the end.

(5) Turn left onto the street and follow it for a while. At the Chapelle-du-Hay crossroads, turn right, follow the road to reach the Allouville Bellefosse road. Turn right and continue.

(6) Cross the road and take the path on the left. It turns left and leads to Valliquerville Castle.

(7) Junction of the GR® 211A and GR® 211. Turn right onto the GR® 211 towards Veulettes-sur-Mer and follow it straight on to reach the D6015 main road; cross it (watch out for cars). Follow the road opposite, go under the railway line and continue. After a few houses, at the junction, take the road on the left, passing the Manoir du Catel, then the sewage treatment plant.

(8) At the crossroads, turn right. Enter the village of Ecretteville-lès-Baons. Pass the town hall on your left and the church on your right. Continue straight on to cross over the motorway. Immediately after, the D110 turns right.

(9) Leave the D110 and turn left onto the street to reach the village of Hautot-le-Vatois. At the crossroads, take the road on the left, follow it and, at the bend, leave the road to take the path opposite. This turns right between the fences; continue along the fence (watch out for hares). Further on, the path turns left to join the D5 road.

(10) Turn left onto the D5. At the crossroads, leave the D5 and turn right. At the Bois Hébert farm, turn right and follow the road as it bends left.

(11) Leave the road and turn left onto the path through the field (the GR® sign is on a tree in the woods).

(12) Junction of the GR® 211 and GR® 211C. Follow the GR® 211C to the right as it climbs through the woods. At the top, continue straight on along the road. Walk past the church on your left. Turn right, then right again, leaving the village hall and the town hall on your left, and continue along the road. After the wayside cross on your right, carry on and turn right into the street. At the end, take the path straight ahead across the fields, which veers slightly.

(13) When you reach the D110 road, turn left and follow it to the village of Autretot. Turn right and keep to your right. Then carry on straight ahead; the road winds through the village. Pass the church, carry on straight ahead and take the path opposite.

(14) Turn left onto the road towards the D131. Cross the D131, take the path opposite and then turn right across the fields.

(15) Go under the motorway and, at the exit of the small tunnel, turn right then immediately left. Cross the fields, keep an eye out for hares. At the end, along the embankment, you’ll see wild rabbits and their burrows. Come out onto the D240 and turn left. Walk past the flax factory, then turn right into Rue du Vieux Sainte-Marie and continue straight on; the road curves.

(16) The GR® turns right into Rue des Prés. Then left, onto Rue du Champs Des Oiseaux, to reach the rear of the Manoir du Fay.
(17) Go through the small gate to cross the Manoir’s garden if it is open; otherwise, follow the road and turn right to reach the entrance to the Manoir du Fay. Turn left onto Rue des Zigzags.

(18) Turn right onto Chemin des Ormes. At Rue des Champs, turn right, cross the road and turn left onto Rue du Petit Fay. Pass under the railway line.

(19) Turn left onto Rue de la République. Follow the street until you reach Avenue du Général Leclerc. Cross over and follow Rue des Victoires on the opposite side, then turn left onto the path to return to the car park ((S/E)).

I was pleasantly surprised by this walk; the route often takes you through wooded areas or gently rolling, tree-lined countryside, and past some magnificent mansions… A wonderful way to discover the heritage of the Cauchois region.
It’s a shame the route doesn’t pass through Autretot, a village awarded four flowers.
Please note: when you reach the D 6015 at Valliquerville, turn right; there is no path straight ahead.
Enjoy the walk
